    Meanwhile Gardens & Trellick Tower

Trellick Tower is an architectural icon of the westLondon skyline, it was designed by ErnoGoldfinger.

It overlooks the Grand Union Canal and inparticular the stretch of Meanwhile Gardensbelow.

33 years ago the gardens were just a derelectwasteland as the council cleared awayterraced houses.

A local sculptor, Jamie McCullock wondered if hecould created a community garden from therubble and received permission form the councilto create a temporary garden - MeanwhileGardens.

Although the gardens are now in their thirties, thename Meanwhile has remained.

    Meanwhile Wildlife Garden

Planet Earth Chartered Landscape Architects were appointed leadconsultants to refurbish this 4 acre neighbourhood park, whichincludes the UKs first skatebowl.

Funded by the National Lottery and British Waterways, MeanwhileGardens is located in a busy inner city area, where there is arecognised lack of green space and many people live without agarden of their own. For this reason it has always been much morethan a park, offering people of all ages the chance to volunteer andlearn new skills as well as relax and enjoy their leisure time.

The project enhances the emerging characters of different areaswithin the large open space. Discreet design elements have beenused to attain a sense of unity throughout.

The Wildlife Garden is managed and maintained by Kensington & Chelsea MIND, who offer a horticultural training and employmentscheme to people who have experienced mental health problems.

Sustainable design techniques and materials are very important.
