1 Overview1.1 About this Document

This document is designed to guide RF engineers in GSM OMCR operations and maintenance the tools. This document is experience summaries which can make users start their work easier. For other detailed operations and descriptions relating to the mentioned tools, see the tool help file or product document.The related software version mentioned in the document is showing as below:

This guide is drafted for radio network planning and optimization engineers.

1.3 GSM system IntroductionThe GSM system structure is showing as following, the radio planning and optimization mostly focus on the BSS part.

In different GSM network, different OM client, the IP addresses mostly are different, the user name and password are also different. They are managed and distributed by OMC administrator. Every OMCR should follow the rules of the OMC.For example, there are 2 BSCs in one network, the IP addresses, user names and passwords like the following table:

1.4 OMCR Services RegulationsRF engineers work in the OMCR should follow the OMCR regulations, and pay attention to below points:

1) Ask for customers permission before entering the equipment room. Register the carry-on articles while going in or out of the equipment room.

2) Strictly abide by customers rules and regulations. For example, make sure whether the customer requires you to put on a shoe cover before entering the equipment room.

3) Smoking, game playing and operating the equipment provided by other vendors without permission in the equipment room are strictly forbidden.

4) Its forbidden to access to the internet websites which are not related to the on-site service.

5) Equipment operation and maintenance are not allowed without customer permission and accompanying; in principles, temporary account and password provided by customers should be used for this purpose. The use of super-password before customers is forbidden. In principle, the operation should be within the scope of operation approved by customers. Exceptional operations should be applied to customers and explanations on possible impacts should be provided.

6) If the equipment runs normally, do not perform any dangerous operations during peak hours and periods for the appraisal of communication indexes or periods of communication assurance.

7) Clean up the site after the service is completed to keep the equipment room tidy and clean;

2 BSC6900 LMT OperationsThe LMT provides graphical user interface (GUI) for you to operate and maintain the BSC6900 on the web page. You can perform the alarm management, trace management, performance monitoring, and device maintenance through menu operations. You can also run the MML commands and read the corresponding execution results on the LMT.2.1 MML Commands2.1.1 Introduction to MML commandsAn MML command consists of two parts: action and object, for example, ADD OP, wherein ADD is the action and OP is the object. Given below list describes the actions that can be performed through MML commands. Some useful action for the reference:

Table 2: description of some useful commands2.1.2 Make MML CommandsSelect one NE from iManager M2000 of same version for which MML commands need to be executed. After that web browser open and you chose MML section to create the script snapshot will help you how to do work and make the script.

Step 1:

Login Main Topology of iManager M2000, select on NE in which you want to run the script

Step 2:Choose MML from the tab; input the command in Command Input box, and then Exec.

2.1.3 Run Script in BatchCopy the script and paste your script in the BATCH tab then press the button of GO to execute the script the script will run and successfully complete. If any problem occurs then script will stop and tell you where and which line of script have error then you go to execution type box and chose the option of Run from line and enter the line number from where error occurs. If you successfully run the script and parameter change off all the cells of NE.

2.2 Alarms

This describes how to manage BSC6900 alarms through the LMT. Through the alarm management, you can analyze the alarms more efficiently to facilitate the troubleshooting.

If you want to take all alarms of the NE, you simply press the refresh button then press the save all records button to save the alarms records in your PC.

If you want to query the alarm logs, you can choose the Query Alarm Log tab. First choose the alarm time you want, you can select the alarm type and alarm severity as well, then you chose the site and press the button of Query the result will be shown on your system after that you save the record.

2.3 Device MaintenanceIn this tab we can check the live status of the site from Monitor channel status. We can check the monitor channel interference band and also modify administrative status in which we can lock the Cell, TRX, and Channel.

In Monitor Interference band we can check the interference on the channel there are 5 type of interference band.

2.4 Trace

Trace management is performed in the routine maintenance of equipment. You can trace the messages on the interfaces and signaling links to verify data and locate faults. Do not start excessive tracing tasks when the traffic load is high. Otherwise, the LMT response speed is very slow. In this case, set Trace Mode to Save To OMU when you start a tracing task.

3 M2000 OperationsThe M2000 is a centralized element management system (EMS) of huawei mobile networks. It manages mobile NEs in a centralized manner.

3.1 Introduction to M2000The M2000 provides the following functions:

1System output window The time displayed is the time of the client. The log, fault, and security information is provided by the server. Therefore, the displayed time is the time of the server.

2Menu Bar The menu bar shows the main menu of the system.

3Status bar The status bar displays the current status information about the system, such as the current user and the IP address of the connected server.

4Toolbar The toolbar shows the shortcut icons for key operation tasks.

3.2 AlarmsAlarms are classified into critical, major, minor and warning severities. This section describes how to adopt corresponding processing policies for different alarm severities and redefine the alarm severities.1. Choose Monitor > Query Alarm List or Logs from the main menu, or click on the toolbar.

2. In the Filter dialog box, set the alarm query conditions.3. Choose Monitor > Query Alarm Event all procedure is same only there filter box have no Status Table and clearance time.

(1) Select one or multiple options in the check box. All the options are selected by default.

(3) Start Time: To query the alarms/events that are raised or Cleared later than this time.End Time: To query the alarms/events that are raised or cleared earlier than this time. Latest: To query the alarms/events that are raised or cleared in the latest hours, days, weeks, or months

(4) Alarm Source: You can select the sites or NEs.

Advanced: Advanced parameters of the alarms that you want to query.

Copy From Template: To copy the filter conditions stored in the copy template.Save Template: To save the current settings in a template.Reset: To restore the parameters for alarm query to the default settings.3.3 Measurement Settings

3.4 User-defined Counter Management

3.5 Query Result4. Choose Performance > Query Result, or click . The Query Result window is displayed.

5. Click New Query, or right-click any node except OMC in the navigation tree, and then choose New Query from the shortcut menu.

If you must save the latest query conditions as a template, you can click Condition to view the query conditions that are set for last operation.

6. On the Object Settings, Counter Settings, and Other Settings tab pages, set the conditions for querying the measurement results.

7. Click Save Template.

8. In the displayed Save as dialog box, enter the name of the new template.

The template name is composed of up to 64 characters, including numerals, spaces, English letters, and some special characters ! { } [ ] ( ) , . ; and underlines.

9. Select a subdirectory in the directory tree to store the new template.

You can right-click the navigation tree, and then choose Create Dir from the shortcut menu to create a new subdirectory.

10. Optional: Select Set default template to set the template as the default template.

After that, measurement results are queried by the conditions in the default template every time you open the Query Result window.11. Click OK to save the template.

User templates, which help them to get result fast.(2) Table: Displays query results in a table.(3) Button bar: Provides the functions of setting new query conditions, viewing the defined query conditions, these buttons will enable after getting the stat with clicking you can move Measurement Status window, querying missing results, and closing the active window.

3.5.2 Object SettingsSearch for a measurement object in the measurement object navigation tree by entering the key in the measurement object name and then clicking Find.

3.5.3 Counter settings

Search for a measurement Counter in the measurement Counter navigation tree by entering the key in the measurement object name and then clicking Search.

In the Available Counters area, the counters that are not set for performance measurements are in grey.

The number of selected counters that are already set for measurements should not exceed 150. In the Selected Counters area, the number of selected counters is displayed.

3.5.4 Other Settings

(1) Continuous Time Mode is check by default, you should check Section Time Mode if you want to get results within separate time segments.

For the same query template, you can set a maximum of three times segments. The start time of each time segment must be earlier than the end time. The start time of the next time segment must be later than or the same as the end time of the current time segment.(2) Date Range All

Queries all the measurement results of certain counters under the selected objects based on the query template.

Today

Queries the measurement results of certain counters under the selected objects within the last day based on the query template. SpecificQueries the measurement results for certain counters under the selected objects within a specified time segment based on the query template. There are 3 view result type: Table, Line Chart, and Bar chart.Table: We can get the detailed result by table type. If you like to analysis by Excel for detailed analysis, this is the best way.

Line chart and Bar chart: We can analysis the results easily by line chart and bar chart type. We can make the report easier, also save lots of time to make the chart by ourselves.

There are 2 types in Line chart: by object and by counter.

3.6 MML

MML is interface where we can do work Fast and efficient

12. Choose Maintenance > MML Command, or click . The MML Command window is displayed.

13. Select one or multiple NEs of same version for which MML commands need to be executed.

(1) All NEs are showing on that box you can select one or multiple NEs.

(2) MML Command Window, you can Search Command also.

(3) Input box:

a. Generate Input Interface

b. Execute Query F9

c. Move Previous command.

d. Move Next Command.

(4) Input interface or parameter display area. You can tune and see the parameters.

4 CME OperationsCME (Configuration Management Express) is a Huawei Tool used for the configuration. It can be used for the configuration of cell sites. CME works in Parallel with iManager M2000. It means we cannot use CME until we login to M2000 server. In CME, we can create BTS, configure or modify Cell parameters, frequencies etc. Basically what CME does is it creates MML scripts for every action that we perform on the Cell/TRX. In the end, we can use these MML commands to actually apply those actions/changes.This chapter is made with respect of RF End. It does not cover the topics which are related to the BSS end.

4.1 Introduction to CME4.1.1 How to login to CME

To login to CME, open iManager M2000, go to Maintenance Tab(CME;

4.1.2 Plan Area and Current Area1. Current Area: we can only view the NEs and its parameters, any type of modification is not allowed. So if we want to see some parameter vales, it is better to use the current area, use of planned area is not recommended in order to avoid unwanted changes in the database.To open the current area, go to Area Management(Open Current

2. Planned Area: If we want change the values of any parameter; we can use the planned area.

(1) See the below images to know how a planned area is created.

(2) Give a name to your planned area, and select the NEs that you want to include in the planned area.

(3) Click the OK button, and it will start processing.

(4) We can swap between the current and planned are according to our requirement. Below image shows how to swap between the current and planned are.

3. Area Synchronization: CME does not support automatic synchronization of Database, we have to synchronize manually. Synchronizing all the NEs at a time is NOT RECOMMENDED because it can cause the OML Link to get congested.

4.2 Parameter change

We will show the steps to make the cell level parameter change as an example.

14. Right click the cell you want to perform the parameter change in plan area, and select Cell Configuration Express.

15. In cell Configuration express window, we can see all the cell level parameters e.g. Idle Mode Parameters, Call Control Parameters, Handover Parameters etc. See Below;

1. Go to the desired parameter you want to change. For example, if we want to change the parameter Concentric Circle HO Allowed, go to Handover Parameters, click on HO Basic Parameters. A list of related parameters is displayed on the right side of the window. From here we can input the desired value of the parameter. See Below;

2. After make the changes, click on the cell and it will give the below message. And then Click Yes to save the changes you made in your Planned Area.

3. Export the change script. Go to Area Management(Planned Area(Export Incremental Script. See Below;

Or you can use the shortcut button to export your Script. See Below;

It will display the following window. You can give the desired path where you want your script to be saved.

In the above image you can see one option, Launch the Script Executer. If you check this option, the CME will take you to the Script Executer window automatically, but you will not be able to copy or edit your script there. 4. Run the script. Right click on your project in the script Executer Window, Activate Project(Break on Failure.The Break on Failure Option will stop the script if it finds error in some command. Otherwise if you choose the Best Effort Option, CME will execute all the commands, skipping the command that contains the error.

It will show the following dialogs if successful.

5. We can keep the option of launch the Script Executer unchecked. What it will do is will save the script in a .txt file on your desired path. You can copy that script and run in the MML when you require. When you click export, it will display a link, where your Script is saved in Text file.

4.3 Neighbor Operations4.3.1 Neighbor Review in CMEOpen Cell Configuration Express(BSC 2G Neighbor Cell, you can get the 2G neighbors of that cell.

Note: CME shows the neighbor relations by Cell Index, so it is better to see the neighbors from MML as there you can see the neighbor relations by Cell Names.

4.3.2 Neighbors Configuration16. Right click on Cell Name(Neighboring Cell Configuration Express, and then you can add/delete neighbor relations or change Cell to Cell Parameters.

4.4 Parameters Export

17. Go to GSM Applications Tab(Export Cell Parameter Data

18. Select Cells. There are 2 modes by cell and by NE can be chosen.

19. Select Attributes. Select the parameters you want to export.

20. Select the file type and file path you want to save the parameters, and then click Next or Finish to export the data.

5 PRS OperationsThe PRS is a platform for monitoring and analyzing the performance data of mobile networks, customizing reports, and displaying reports. The PRS is used for the functions such as routine operation and maintenance of the mobile network.

It enables users to aggregate and store data based on multiple dimensions. It supports the long-duration storage and efficient query of data.

It provides various predefined reports, which are used for monitoring and analyzing the operating status of networks.

The PRS enables users to customize KPIs and reports, generate and distribute reports as scheduled, query reports based on multiple dimensions such as object, time, and properties, and manage dashboards, and thus improving the work efficiency of network optimization engineers and operation and maintenance (OM) engineers.

5.1 Introduction to PRSThe PRS supports flexible operations for querying and collecting KPI statistics. You can query the KPIs at object or time dimensions.

Support the KPI analysis. You can query results of KPIs at time and object dimensions without creating a report

Support the scheduled generation and distribution of reports. Without starting the PRS client, you can obtain the reports from the FTP server or the email address.

Support various report formats. A report can contain multiple pages. Each page support different report formats and different filtering conditions, which reduces the user operations.

The PRS adopts the common object request broker architecture (CORBA) that provides a basic data service platform for the system. The services and functions of the PRS are developed and deployed on the basis of modules. In this way, the PRS can quickly respond to your OM requirements.Common Operations of Report Administrators:a. Customizing Required Counters

f. Distributing Reports Periodically5.2 Object Group Management

5.2.1 Define Object GroupThe Purpose of defining Object Group is to use them while query of selected cells/ Culprit cells, regions or clusters define in form of object group.

After defining Object Group we can query through Report Management of specific counter at once by clicking Query/ Query by Condition.Here introduce how to define the cell group, the method to define BSC and other groups are similar.

23. Select object type. Click Next to select BSC s/ Specific Culprit Cells for cell group analyzing.

24. Provide the name and category of analysis, and then click Next to finish.

5.2.2 Exporting Object GroupThe Report properties of the object group can be exported to get detail of define information in any Gcell Group template. Procedure for exporting is as below.

5.3 Performance Report ManagementAfter the element management system (EMS) collects the data of performance counter data from NEs, the data collection module of the PRS periodically collects the data and saves it in a file, and imports the data in the file to the report database. In this way, the PRS enables you to learn the current network status by querying and monitoring the counter data.5.3.1 Defining ReportWe will make a simple report as an example in this part. The other type reports are similar.25. Right click a root file you want the report belong to. New(Simple Report, and then Next.

26. Select the object type you want to define, and then Next.

27. Set the Sub-report type. And input the sub-report name.

28. Select the counters which you need to export in the report.

29. Filter Condition. Choose the Filter Condition as per Report Requirement.

30. Select Top N condition. This makes it easy to get the worst cells.

31. Click OK, and Next, and then set the object that we need to output in the report template. Note: The object we define here is for the template, we can select the mostly using object in this report template. However, we can select the other object as well when query this template.

34. Set the basic information: Report name, report directory, and report description.After set the basic information, click Next and then Finish to end.

5.3.2 Excel Template Management

This is one of the best features of PRS. The purpose is to generate graphical report automatically from PRS. We can output the network daily/weekly/monthly report with KPI trend graph or other graphs very easily.This is base on the report template. First select the right report template that we want to make, generate the required graph in excel, and then import the excel template.

35. First query the right repot template which your want to make, and save to your PC.

36. Generate the required graphs based on the downloaded data, after optimize the graphs and format, delete all the data and save as a template.

37. Import the excel template. Right click the report template that just using, Excel Template Management(Set Excel Template, and then input the excel template location, and set export parameters. The excel template is imported.

38. After import the excel template, there is no difference of query results showing in PRS, but if you save the results, you will find that the graphs will be generated automatically.

5.4 Querying Report

In the report management, you can find some report templates by default, and the user-defined report templates.

By double clicking the report template, you can get the results directly.

But if you want to take some more days status, or more objects status, you need to use query by condition. Here shows the steps.

39. Go to Report Management; select the report template that you want to query. Right click the report template, go to Query by Condition.

40. Choose the Objects and time you want to query.

41. Then you can get the required data.

42. Saving data. Right click the main export page and save.

5.5 KPI Analysis

This section describes how to generate a KPI analysis report. To query and obtain the specified data from the report database and to generate corresponding KPI analysis reports, you can set query conditions in real time.43. Go to Performance Report(KPI Analysis. Then you can get the following window:

44. Select the right object type. The mostly using object types are: GBSC, GCELL_GCELL Group, GCell. Select the object type according to the counters you want to analysis.

Then, select the object.

45. Select the counters that you want to analysis.

46. Select the time.

47. Click the, then you can get the results. PRS also can show the graphs which is similar with M2000, by clicking on .

6 Routine Data CollectionFor detailed analysis, we need to take more original data. This chapter is about those original data. There are some parts maybe need the help from the BSS team.

6.1 CFG File CollectionThe CFG file contained the configure information per BSC.Collection method: open LMT or M2000, use the MML command: EXP CFGMML;6.2 OPT Logs Collection

The OPT logs means record the operation on the BSC.
