Geriatric Society of India, an NGO, has been spreading theawareness of Geriatrics in the medical as well as paramedicalcommunity. To update the Geriatric caregivers (Doctors, Nursesand Paramedics), the Society has done Regional, National andInternational Conferences. The International Conferences onGeriatrics and Gerontology in the years 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004,2006 and 2008 and 2010, 2011 & 2012 have been landmarksin the field of updating Indian medicos about the innovations inthe field of geriatric medicine.
The 10 th International Congress on Geriatric care is being organized at the beautifulHotel Clarion, New Delhi. This will be a congregation of Geriatricians, Super specialistsPhysicians, Family Physicians and care givers in addition to paramedics.
The need based scientific programme is being carefully planned by our Advisors andScientific Coordinators. The faculty has been drawn from International and Nationalexperts. The faculty will update on “comprehensive care of elderly”. There will be ampleopportunity for interaction between faculty and delegates.
The festive season and wonderful weather of November will give the organizers anopportunity to offer the delegates, social feast and sight seeing in and around Delhi.
I invite you to join the conference, participate actively and share your views.
WELCOME
Independent India witnessed a continuously rising age span, attributable to control of epidemics, infections, improving medi-
cal facilities, nutrition, health awareness etc. The net result is a mammoth 90 million elderlysegment. No wonder, proportionately the number of people suffering from cardiac prob-lems has gone high. These may due to diseases in coronaries, myocardium, conductionsystem or in valves. Apart from ageing other factors are malnutrion, life style, physicalinactivity & stress. With recent advancement in medical sciences all above diseases aremanageable without any age bar. I welcome and request my colleagues / Geriatric caregivers to interact, and subsequently pass on the benefits of newer technologies to theirpatients.

Chairman, Influenza Foundation of India
Aging of cells, a phenomena undeniable leads to Old age;the Geriatric Group. The 10th International Conference onGeriatric Care is a bold step to understand the situation for bettermanagement. The International thinking which the GeriatricSociety of India (GSI) jointly with Influenza Foundation of India(IFI) provides an unlimited opportunity toexchange thinking views, and I wish sincerely a great success inall our deliberations.
The GSI in the past has improved our understanding which was long wanted. Viralinfections in the past 3-4 decades have opened newer vista to understand the diseasecomplexity. Among respiratory viruses, influenza plays an important role in the oldadult age group. The infection not only complicates the existing diseases which leadsto large morbidity & mortality. It has been a right step for the GSI to adopt InfluenzaVaccine in elderly. This will not only prevent and reduce disease complication, but aswell as provide protection during the prevalence period.
With seasonal greetings and good wishes for a very successful deliberation duringthe conference time; I am sure each one of us will returns home with enriched knowl-edge to make the Geriatric population happy & healthy.
Currently, India has the second largest elderly population in theWorld. Geriatric – Care is a specialized emerging branch ofMedicine in India. Ageing is not preventable, but frailty & some dis-eases that affect older adults are preventable. It is my utmost pleasureto highlight that the Geriatrics Society of India will host its GSICON2013 - Annual Conference of Geriatric Society of India on 16th and17th of November, 2013. This 10th International Congress on Geriatric Care (GSICON)cum Annual Scientific Meeting will be held at the eye-catching Hotel Clarion, New Delhi. The GSICON-2103 is an annual event which attracts eminent local and overseasgeriatricians and gerontologists to participate. Unique resource information will bediscussed on topics from Genetics to New Therapies of Clinical Developments inGeriatric Care by renowned Scientists and pioneers in Medical, Dental, Nursing,Pharmacy and Physiotherapy from different parts of India and abroad
I am confident that GSICON 2013 would create an excellent platform to enlighten ourparticipants with new insights in the care of the elderly, to improve on our own healthcareservices and to establish clear directions in meeting those impeding challenges in theyears to come. After the scientific program, the delegates will also have a chance toexperience some of the India’s best attractions as well as learning about the city’scaptivating history. On behalf of the Geriatric Society of India, I am sending my warmhearted welcome greetings and wish to see you all soon at the GSICON-2013conference.
