Vidigueira_Alentejo

Vidigueira is located in the south of Portugal, in the vast

plains of the Lower Alentejo, where, like in the Spanish

Andalusia, we can feel the proximity of the

Mediterranean.

The municipality of Vidigueira is in the middle of the

Alentejo Region, in the border of Lower and Higher

Alentejo, between the towns of Beja and Évora.

It has vast plains and in the north there is a small

mountain, Serra do Mendro. On the east side flows the

Guadiana River.

and, at the same time, is the promoting entity of

this project.

The Aim of this Project

With this project the CEFAE, Lda./EPFA has been

developing several activities /workshops, with the

main purpose of:

- improving women life conditions, their social,

economic and cultural life;

-occupy their spare time, throughout inclusion life

programmes;

-- sharing experiences, create workshops for their

integration and seminars/sensibility actions with

specialist on the area.

Target

Courses for adult people_women.

There are 22 students. Ages: from 40 to 79 years

old.

Our project is being developed in two locations,

both villages of Vidigueira’s Municipality,

Pedrógão and Vila de Frades.

Workshops

During the 1st year project, the learners assisted to

3 workshops:

-Psychological Therapy (once a week, 1h and an half;

from September 2010 to July 2011).

-Plastic and handicraft workshop (once a week, 1h and

an half, from September 2010 to July 2011/ September

to October 2011).

-Drama workshop (once a week, 1h and an half, in

May and June 2011, for a group of 9 learners at Vila de

Frades).

- Sexuality in adult life (health care, personal care;

familiar planning; affects…);

- Self evaluation in groups (personal, familiar and

social behavior and attitudes);

- Improving the communicational and the assertive

skills of the participants.

Themes:

- "Positivism in life" ...

- We worked to "Self - esteem, as we defined several

strategies to improve self-esteem and self

concept. Positive words such as "I'm interesting";

"I'm beautiful" "I Can," among others, are very

important.

- Defence strategies were set before, we discussed

the Domestic Violence.

We used true stories of the trainees to work their

issues, addressing thus the consequences of

domestic violence and its repercussions on the

education of their children and in the relationship

among these couples.

We discussed drug, alcoholic addictions and

violence associated with them. Case reports,

experienced by trainees.

And he made the referral of a case of a lady, who

expressed interest in occupying the days as a

volunteer worker in a social entity.

We did a session about "The Power of Feelings,"

which drew up the following scheme:

We worked about the power of emotions: The

Good feelings lead us to achieve what we want, so

when we can achieve what we want, these feelings

fill us with more of what we want and so on.

We organized another session about "Fear" .

We have based the discussion on the following

issues:

"What are Feelings?/ - How are your feelings?

/ - All the things they want are motivated by the

good feelings that we tease!“

Gratitude is a strategy that allows us to live

better, more calm, health and welfare. The

grateful people feel more joy, enthusiasm, love,

happiness and optimism, deal more effectively

with post-traumatic stress, recover more quickly

from disease and have better physical health.

Meeting the Comenius assistants

In April and May 2012 we organised meetings

with two Language assistant Comenius, Cristina

Ibañez and Alice Webb, that made a presentation

from Spain and England to promote the contact

with other cultures, traditions and to know other

European countries.

Hall of Vidigueira in association with the UMAR –

União de Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta, a women

association created in 1976 to support all the

questions related to human rights and the Junta de

Freguesia of Vila de Frades.

School board to inform about the project and the partners;

Host partner in March 2012: “SCHOOL FOR APPLICABLE ASSISTANCE”. The vocational school in rural region assists women for better social and economic inclusion. Activities are tested = mixed work groups, workshop, theatre project, seminar: disadvantaged women with helpful specialists, networking with regional social institutions;
