GRP pipes wall consists of three layers perfectly adherent one to the other and each having different

characteristics and properties according to their function.

Liner or chemically resistant layer The liner or chemically resistant layer is manufactured using vinylester/polyester resin reinforced with glass fibres. The liner is in contact with the conveyed fluid and guarantees the resistance to chemical corrosion due to the fluid and increases the characteristics of impermeability of the whole pipe. It is smooth without defects, cracks or delaminated zones that reduces to minimum the fluid head losses and pumping head losses, and furthermore reduces to minimum the growth of algae or of mineral deposits.

GRP pipes wall consists of three layers perfectly adherent one to the other and each having different

characteristics and properties according to their function.

Filament or mechanical resistant layer The filament wound layer confers the mechanical resistance to the whole pipe against the stresses due to all design conditions (internal and/or external pressures, vacuum, flexural stresses due to the external loads of earth and traffic load, etc.) and also against the loads due to transports and laying operations. The filament layer is obtained by applying, on the partially cured liner, continuous strands of glass filament roving, impregnated with vinylester/polyester resin, wound with a selected angle and under a controlled tension, according to the "Dual Helix Filament Winding" technique. The thickness of the mechanical resistant layer varies according to the pipe’s specific design conditions. No silica sand is included in the mechanical wall.

Gel coat or external layer

The gel coat is the external layer of the pipe. This has a thickness of not less than 0.2 mm as requested by

specifications and consists of a layer of resin, which guarantees the complete impregnation of all peripheral

fibres.

The laminated butt and strap joint is applied to connect pipes to The lamination is obtained by applying glass mats and woven roving or coupled glass, resin impregnated, alternately wound by means of the “hand lay up” technique around the ends of pipe and/or fittings suitably bevelled at the ends.

Butt and strap joint allows for fabrication of spool on site and also for possible modifications or adjustment of the lines.

Thrust concrete anchor blocks at elbows and reducers are not necessary except for stress analysis requirements if any. fittings and fittings to fittings in fabricated spools. The activity can be carried easily both at shop and on site.

Flanges are fixed integral type and are drilled according to ANSI B16.5 / B16.47 Series A Class 150# rating according to piping class specification.

Flanges are produced by hand lay up techniques by applying, on moulds, layers of chopped strand mats, woven roving and/or coupled glass, impregnated of resin. This operation is repeated until the required thickness is achieved.
