Growth and Reproduction of Cells
7th Grade Science
The cell cycle has 3 parts: Growth Replication Division
The Cell Cycle
During Interphase: The cell grows and goes through life processes Copies genetic material (DNA) Makes protiens
Phase One: Interphase
Phase Two: Mitosis
Mitosis is the replication of the nuclear material
It is a type of asexual reproduction
The 4 Steps of Mitosis
1. Prophase- chromosomes shorten and thicken and become known as chromatids
2. Metaphase- chromatids line up at the center of the cell.
3. Anaphase- chromatids separate from each other and move to opposite side of the cell.
4. Telophase- a new nuclear membrane forms around each region of chromosomes.
Phase Three: Cytokinesis
The final stage in the cell cycle is cytokinesis
Here two identical daughter cells are formed
