Transcript of Growing up in Stoke-on-Trent - Carmountside Primary School
Hello, Year Four.I am very pleased to meet you.
My name is Katy Vigurs.
Who am I?
Where am I from?
That’s me!
Aged 7
This is my little sister.
In a minute, you are going to guess where I work and what my job is. But first, I am going to tell you what I was like when I was your age.
There might be some clues. Or there might not!
I drew this alien when I was six.
I was born in Milton in Stoke-on-Trent.I went to Milton Primary School.
I lived in Light Oaks in Baddeley Edge.
My Dad worked at The Potteries Museum in Hanley. My Mum worked in the library,
which is next-door to the museum.
When I was seven year old…I had a five year old sister. I had two cats and two stick insects.
I liked drawing and reading. I played the recorder. I loved singing and dancing and riding my bike.
I was good at writing stories. I collected owl ornaments. I was not very good at Maths or telling the time.
I could not tie up my shoe laces (I still can’t).
I made lots of friends at school.I liked making up games with them.
We made obstacle courses and had races. We set up a ‘Ghost Club’.
I also liked teaching them the rules to new games and helping them with their homework.
What did my teachers say about me?This is from my school report in Year 6,
when I was eleven years old. What did they think I needed to work on?
What do you want to be when you leave school?
• My name is …………………………………………………..• I am ……. years old.• When I grow up, I think I want my job to be ………………………………………………………………………..................................................................................• This is because ……………………………………………..……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
How did I know what working in a pet shop would be like?
Where did this idea come from?
My first paid job when I was 17 was here.I worked on Saturdays and Sundays for one summer.
I stacked the shelves and worked on the tills.
I don’t work in a pet shop anymore. You’re going to work in small groups to come up with some
questions to try to find out what my job is. Each group needs to come up with 10 questions.
Example questionsDo you have to go to university to do your
job?
Do you wear a uniform for work?
Do you work outside?
Are you a vet?Are you a bus driver?
Time to come up with some questions to help you work out what I do for my job.
Guess my job.Three guesses per group.
I work at Staffordshire University
I am a lecturer and an education researcher.
How did I end up doing this job?
