Dear Friends of United Methodist Homes
United Methodist Homes has been deeply rooted in the Northeastern Pennsylvania and South Central New York areas for over 60 years. Our dedication to the care
and well-being of our senior residents has earned top ranks for satisfaction and quality of care. As we look back over the last year, we are ever cognizant of the changes and growth of our programs and services as we continue to strive to provide the highest quality of care for our residents.
The growth of United Methodist Homes is only possible through generous gifts
given by others. Whether it is time, treasure or talent, those individuals that give to the United Methodist Homes are truly the roots of our organization. As our roots grow deeper, our ability to reach those in need grows wider. Through your generosity, gifts to the United Methodist Homes Foundation’s Resident Assistance Program provided nearly $710,000 in funding to those most vulnerable residents who needed it the most in order to remain in their home at UMH. In addition, funds received through the Foundation provided a wide range of activities like the Memory Maker Project for our residents challenged with memory loss, to give them opportunities to continue to grow and express themselves through various forms of art.
These are just a couple of ways that United Methodist Homes has been deeply enriched, and the generosity of you, our donors, has made our growth possible. We are grateful for every gift, and all donations to the United Methodist Homes Foundation are returned to our residents in the form of programs and services to enhance their lives each and every day.
Sincerely,
Brian Picchini, President and CEO Calli Berg, Board Chair

our
our
Roots,
As you search your memories, you realize there have been countless people with which
you have crossed paths. There were family members, friends, co-workers, and even the clerk at the local grocery store. Each one of these people have a story of their own, just like you, but do you know their story? If you knew, would your relationship with them have been different? What we all know is, that at one time or another, we have all needed help. Whether it was from a family member helping take care of your children, or a co-worker that helped you complete a project, we have all been the recipient of someone’s help along the way. We’ve all had someone that was a rainbow in our cloud.
Helping others, whether it is with time, abilities or resources brings out the intrinsic feeling of just doing something good for the sake of doing something good with no expectation of something in return. In Hebrews
Chapter 13, Verse 16 it states, “and do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Your generous gifts and sharing of your resources have made a difference in the lives of so many that you will never meet. Your acts of helping, regardless of the size of the gift, have put residents and families at ease knowing that their loved one can remain in their home and receive the care
they need regardless of their ability to pay. Your gifts come in all sizes, but the measure of the impact on the lives touched by these gifts is immeasurable.

Over the course of 2018, your combined gifts of nearly $710,000 were quietly distributed across our campuses through the Resident Assistance Program to help your neighbors and friends stay in their homes and continue enjoying all of the resources offered through the United Methodist Homes. You may not feel that you made a significant contribution, but rest assured that all gifts, regardless of the amount, are critical to continuing this program that helps others in the UMH family.

In addition to the Resident Assistance Program, funds received by the United Methodist Homes Foundation have been used for a number of programs and projects to enhance the quality of lives, safety and health of our seniors. As you read through these stories of our successes, we are ever reminded that you, our donors, are the reason for our success, and you have given so generously to be the rainbow in the cloud of others.

Brooks Estates Expansion Project
United Methodist Homes strives to be at the leading edge of meeting
needs in the communities we serve. Originally conceived by a group of Scranton area visionaries, including Rev. Harry E. Brooks, United Methodist Homes was created and opened their first location in 1958 in Scranton. Over the years, generous donations to the Homes have provided for substantial expansion of facilities and services provided to the aging population. One of the expansion opportunities came in 2003 with the opening of Brooks Estates Independent Living Cottages on the Wesley Village campus. Brooks Estates, appropriately named after founder Rev. Harry Brooks, was constructed to meet the needs of seniors in the community looking for independent living options. There are currently 103 maintenance-free cottages on the campus, which are fully occupied.
Then, in 2017, United Methodist Homes realized the need for additional independent living options in our Pennsylvania location continued,
due to the extensive waiting list for our Brooks Estates units.
After careful consideration, the Board of Directors decided
to embark on an expansion of cottages on the Wesley
Village campus. There were a number of focus group
meetings held where senior residents had the opportunity
to provide input into the layout of the new cottages to ensure the best floor plan to
meet the needs of future residents. The cottages will
be equipped with open floor plans, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, washer and dryer
hook ups and a one car garage. In addition, residents that wish
to reserve a cottage during the construction phase have the
option of upgrading cabinets, flooring, and countertops and
even adding an enclosed sunroom if they wish.

can move through the continuum of care right on the Wesley Village campus. The Anderson Personal Care facility is located on the campus footprint, along with Myers Manor which also provides independent
living and personal care. In the event further care is needed, the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility is only steps away and provides skilled nursing, a rehabilitation center and secured memory care unit.
With the ever growing need for quality living options for our seniors, United Methodist Homes provides exceptional opportunities for those looking for active senior living.
