GROWING INCOME DISPARITY IN EDUCATION: LOOKING AT VOUCHERS AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

As the US shifts to an information-based economy, the middle class is shrinking.

As the disparity in income has widened, so too has the disparity in achievement between wealthy and poor students.

Schools must look to increase innovation and competition.

Parents must be given an equal opportunity to choose the best educational program for their child.

SOLUTIONS

Vouchers State-sponsored scholarships for at-need students to

attend private schools. Poor students exposed to voucher programs have shown

an increased likelihood to graduate high school and continue their education.

Charter Schools Gives parents and teaches the flexibility to experiment

with new learning styles. Competition from charter schools has encouraged

traditional public schools to innovate in order to retain students.
