-The existing architecture on the island originates from a variety of cultures. This originates from ship wrecks and the events that relate to pirates and on board slaves as well as european explorers. - These culture include: European, African, and Indian.-The interbreeding of these Cultures over time have brought together a variety of architectural ideas.- The people from the breed called them selves the Garifuna tribe. -Because of this there is a mix of spanish, african and european architecture through out the entire island.-Because of this many houses and buildings are known to have pastel colors.-This interbreeding of architectureal style can relate to port cities such New Orleans, also contain a spanish and european mix.

Structures
Some of the resorts, such as Villas Pico Bonito, are built in a way that attracts ecotourists. The land isn’t cleared for the resort, rather it is used to seclude and nestle the buildings into their surroundings. Due to the lush vegetation, birds and other wildlife are drawn to the area, enhancing the experience the visitors get on hiking trails or even while simlply sitting out on the patio areas. The architecture of outdoor eating areas and patios is heavuily reliant on cross-ventilation, so the rooftops are usually raised leaving the underneath open forwind. The structures themselves are also eco friendly, being built out of found materials, such as wood, straw and rock.References:http://www.palmettobayplantation.comTyrrell, Lise. Eco Tropical Resorts. Low Lying Plants and Mangrove
Dense Rainforest
Strangler fig and plants such as deciduous fruit trees, like Hog Plum and Nancewhich are native to Tropical and Subtropical climates. The fruit is consumed by herbivores or by people for deserts.
Coconut Palms, Spanish Cedar, and Almond trees are some trees thatmake up the forested areas on the island. The food produced is used forcooking and the timber is used for building.
Coco Plums, Sea Grapes, and Mangroves are found typically along the coastal areas. The roots act as barriers from storm surge.
ROATAN
ReefThe reef is experiencing erosion problems due to rapid coastaldevelopment, hurricanes, deforestation, fishing, and divers; the main reason being human activity,
