The Verse Romans 10:9 NIRV Say with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord.” Believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Then you will be saved.

Group Activity Directions

Leavin’ It Behind! // You’ll Need!• Word Bubble activity sheet (2 per child) • Markers (1 set per group) • Trash cans (2 per room) To Do 1. Practice the Verse and the Point together. Say: On the Konnect Space Station, Cruz had to leave a lot of stuff behind to obey God and show Jesus is his Lord. We might have to get rid of some stuff, too, to show Jesus is our Lord! Ask: What’s something you should leave behind if you want to show you’re following Jesus? Use the Leavin’ It Behind list below to help. 2. Give each kid two Word Bubble activity sheets and a

marker. 3. Kids write or draw one thing they’ll leave behind on each

sheet. 4. Kids share their word bubbles with the group. 5. Kids throw away what they’re leavin’ behind. Have fun as

they toss it in the trashcan for good!

Bonus 1. Kids make up motions for the phrases, “Jesus Is Lord,”

and, “Leavin’ It Behind.”

1. What was your favorite part of the Konnect show? 2. If you were a new crew member, what job would you

do on the Konnect Space Station? 3. What would it be like if everyone on the Konnect

Space Station kept ALL of their stuff on board?

Check For Understanding

1. What is a disciple? A person who learns about, follows, and lives for Jesus.

2. Read Romans 10:9 out loud. What do you need to do to be saved from sin? Say Jesus is Lord; believe God raised Him from the dead.

3. Once you’re saved from your sins, what can you get rid of to show you’re Jesus’ disciple? Anything that keeps me from following Jesus

4. Why did Jesus tell the rich young ruler to sell all of his stuff? Jesus knew that stuff was too important to him and would distract him from doing the right thing.

5. The rich young ruler wanted to be Jesus’ disciple, but he left and went home instead. Why? He felt like he really needed it; he made it more important than Jesus.

6. How do you know if something is more important to you than following Jesus? It’s all you can think about, it makes you want to disobey, you’re afraid of what would happen if it’s not around, it’s hurting you or hurting other people, etc.

Apply To This Week

1. Just like the rich young ruler, Cruz had to decide if he wanted to be a disciple. Cruz said yes; the rich young ruler said no. What do you say? Don’t force kids into saying yes. It’s their personal decision.

2. How will you be different as a disciple of Jesus? Answers will vary.

3. What is one thing you can get rid of or stop doing to show Jesus is your Lord and you’re His disciple? Answers will vary.

4. Getting rid of things is one way to show Jesus is your Lord. But there are some things you can KEEP to show Jesus is your Lord. What can you keep doing to show Jesus is your Lord? Reading my Bible, praying, sharing, being kind, etc.

Pray: God, thank You for choosing us to be Your disciples. Please give us the power to leave all the stuff behind that distracts us from following Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
