What is group discussion.?

Selection process for an admission or job.

Judging the personality of candidates. Today, almost every companies (including TCS,WIPRO,INFOSYS)

IT and non-IT has GD as part of their Selection Process.

to interact with other members. Like emotional maturity and balance promotes with good interpersonal relationships.

A group can’t carry on its assigned work effectively without a leader. So , there is no appointed leader in a group discussion for selection process.

The candidate who possesses both functional ability and coordinating ability will emerge as the leader.

(2):- Group Discussion Based on a Case Study.----------------------------------------------------------------- First of all we will do general Discussion on

How will you approach to the topics and case study.??

(2)Approach to Topics and Case studyWhile you are attending group discussion you

have to take cares of these,

When you are presented with a topic for group discussion , take a minute or two to think about the topic with an open mind and note down the major issues.

Don’t directly jump to any conclusion, First make sure that you Covered entire things which is in your topic and case study .

Always remember when you elaborate on your reason evaluator

will only get an impression of what you think and not how you think.

(2)Approach to Topics and Case study(1):- Group discussion based on a Topic:-Topic based group discussion are generally more difficult to

handle than case study because of there is no starting point for candidates ‘ thought , process, particularly when the topic is

unfamiliar.

Keep in mind Panel may or may not allow more time for thinking . So first of all generate your ideas as quickly as you can.

In order to start your speaking as early as possible. While speaking , not only must you develop the ideas. But also thing ahead for subsequent ideas.

1) Knowledge Based Topics. 2) Abstract Topics. 3) Controversial Topics. 4) Opinion Seeking Topics.

1) Knowledge Based Topics:-

• Examples:• a) Unique Identification Number.• f) MBA or MCA? • g) Privatization of Universities/colleges/schools

2):-Abstract Topics:

In such topics, your comprehension skills and communication skills are judged.• Example:• 1) 26 Alphabets• 2) Infinite Numbers• 3) A Walk to Remember

• Such topics do not require facts or figures but simply judge your imagination and how well you can associate it with you day to

day life.

3) Controversial Topics:-

Such topics can lead to an argument, they’re argumentative in nature.

They are meant to generate controversy and at the same time, judge the analytical skills of the participant to see if he/ she can think rationally.

Example:

1) Reservation system should be removed. 2) Politics in India. 3) Do you think. migration is increasing day to day from village to city

4) Opinion Seeking Topics:-

In such topics, candidates are asked to put across their opinions, their point of views.

such topics and also your ability to work in a team which means

that your leadership skills are also judged. Example:- 1) Women – boon to the society or bane to the society. 2) Love Marriage or Arranged Marriage. 3) Nuclear Family or Joint Family.

If your Analytical skills are good, then case study are easier to handle than topic based group discussion.

Cases are discussion of situations (in business or other organizations) like past action, a decision on your future action, or both

You also need to carefully examine each word of the topic , if possible and there are no word which can have different impressions.

If some ambiguity exists, it makes sense to define the terms first.

Organize your idea before speaking.Keep track of time and share time fairly.Have an open mind and listen to others’ views.Display a spirit of cooperation and an accommodation
