• UNIVERSALIZING RELIGION:– Four characteristics of a universalizing religion:

• dominant in some part of the world• have a way of spreading the religion• “guidelines” as to what is good for all mankind• is not immediately associated to an ethnicity, place or nation• Examples: Islam, Christianity, Buddhism

What are some common characteristics of all creation myths?

• Women tend to mess up things– Greek: Pandora’s box– Christian: Eve got Adam to eat an apple

• There is a creator– Chinese: Pan Gu– Hungarian: white-bearded God and Heavenly Mother

• The man/men come first and make people– Norse: Ymir – begat children from arms, legs– Japanese: Izanagi – ordered for 1,500 babies born
