For the proper functioning of homes or commercialspaces, the drainage system has to be very efficient.Lack of proper drainage system could cause avarious problems like leaks, floods and healthhazards too. There are basically two kinds ofdrainage systems - surface or ground drainagesystems and subsurface or underground drainagesystems. The main function of any drainage systems,be it above ground or below ground drainage is totransport the storm water or the sewage to the riveror the sewage treatment plant. There are a variety ofmaterials which are used for ground drainage. Theseinclude CI pipes, ceramic pipes, lead pipes, copperpipes, galvanized iron pipes, PVC pipes, CPVC pipesand the geocomposite pipes. Here is a run down

CI Pipes – These pipes have been used in ground drainage systems fora long time and are said to be highly durable compared to other pipes. But, the cost of these pipes is high and so is the cost of transportationand installation.

GI Pipes – Galvanized iron pipes are basically steel pipes that arecoated with some particular metal like zinc, etc. in order to preventthem from rusting. There are quite a lot of benefits of these pipeswhich include high durability and anti-corrosiveness. While the con’sinclude the cost which is comparatively high and the transportationand handling issues due to heavy weight of the pipes.

Copper Pipes – Copper pipes also have been used for a long time nowin drainage and water supply systems. The advantage of these pipes istheir durability and ability to carry hot water also. These pipes areflexible and are resistant to corrosion. But on the other side, thesepipes are very costly.
