It is pretty hard to beat an occasion that involves a pool, beautiful weather, happy kids and great community participation and support. I would like to thank and congratulate all of the staff involved in the organisation and delivery, great job! Thanks also to the many parent helpers on the day. We simply couldn’t run events like these without your support; from timekeeping to trailer packing, it all helps to make the day a pleasure to be a part of. Once again, as always, I have to commend our students for their fine attitude towards such occasions. Although participation in the swimming events has declined over the years, what has not diminished is the strong culture of sportsmanship and humility that defines this school. I hope you can join us on Wednesday 14 March at our Swimming Carnival assembly to celebrate this success. Permanent Teacher Position Applications for a permanent teacher position at Grose View PS have been received and suitable candidates will be interviewed on Monday 26 February. Notification of the successful applicant will be made available to the staff and community after the 10 day appeal period is over. 3-Way Parent, Teacher, Student Conferences This term we will be offering parents an additional option as part of our parent/teacher meetings. The 3-Way conference is an opportunity to include students in the conversation about their learning. It is not a compulsory format and parents may still elect to have a traditional face-to-face meeting, or a combination of both. The 3-Way conference is about engaging students more in their learning journey, taking more responsibility for their learning, and having a better understanding of themselves as learners. The conferences will also be moved to Term 1 so that teachers and parents can establish shared expectations early in the year and work collaboratively to achieve them. Visible Learning Leadership Program Our school will soon be commencing a 3 year professional learning program that explores the work of John Hattie and his research into Visible Learning. This research is widely regarded as one of the most relevant, evidence-based studies into student learning and teacher effectiveness. All teaching staff will be participating in the project, with three staff members undertaking additional training as Visible Learning leaders (Mrs Hine, Mrs Edwards and Mr Smith). Our school will also partner with staff from Hobartville PS and Kurmond PS to extend the breadth of professional learning and dialogue across schools. Damien Feneley Principal

Student items required for the Library Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 require a library bag to borrow their books. Their bag must be a cloth bag; please no plastic bags because they have a tendency to tear. Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) The PRC opens online on Monday 5 March 2018. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading and expose them to a wide variety of quality literature. K-2 participate in the challenge through reading PRC books with their classroom and library teachers. Years 3-6 can choose to participate in the challenge through selecting PRC books to read independently. All books that have been read since the start of Term 4 2017 can be added to the reading log. Students who participate in the challenge receive a certificate from the Premier of NSW. Students in Year 3 who have completed the challenge each year will receive their Gold Award in December (4 consecutive years). Students in Year 6 who have completed the PRC each year will receive a Platinum Award (7 consecutive years). Parent helpers If you are interested in helping in the Library—to shelve or cover books—please visit me in the Library or send me an email.

KURRAJONG/BILPIN LITTLE ATHLETICS We must apologise to the following students who also qualified to represent their local club at the Regional Little Athletics Championships in Dubbo: Justin C 1500 m, 800 m, javelin, shot put Joshua S long jump Alex S 1100 m walk, triple jump, javelin Not only did they achieve outstanding results, but also conducted themselves in a fine sporting manner. Well done! STUDENT TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS Please ensure you return completed All-in-One Permission notes as a matter of urgency. Included is a section on student travel to and from school which is needed by class teachers to complete a template for their class. These are then compiled into a master template in the office. These templates assist staff to ensure that children get collected from the correct place each afternoon—Kurrajong, Bowen Mountain or North Richmond bus; Kiss n Drop; or in school.

You may change your arrangements at any time simply by advising your child’s teacher. Messages can be delivered to your child for unexpected and one-off changes provided you call the office before 2.50 pm on the day. DISABLED PARKING Daniel O is now travelling to school with a driver from Assisted School Transport. The wheelchair friendly vehicle will park in the disabled parking area where Daniel will be met by a member of staff. By arrangement with the school, a parent has been allocated a temporary disabled parking space. An appropriate sign has been displayed. Please assist us by ensuring you do not obstruct access to the driveway, use the car park for dropping your child at school, or enter the school through the driveway gates as a pedestrian.

SCHOOL HATS All children are required to wear a hat in the playground at recess, lunch and during outdoor activities. School hats are available from the office at any time. Boys hats are $12 and girls hats are $15. They can also be purchased from Brynorms in Richmond. SECOND HAND UNIFORMS There are a variety of jackets, sloppy joes, track pants, trousers, shorts, skorts, cullottes, shirts, dresses and tunics, hats, tights and more available from the office. The cost is $2 per item. BUS TAGS Coloured tags are available from the office for those students who travel by bus. The cost is $2 each. COMMONWEALTH STUDENT SCHOOL BANKING The 2018 Commonwealth Student Banking will begin again Tuesday 6 March 2018. From 2018, Youthsaver accounts can be opened online by parents who bank with CommBank, as well as those who don't. Accounts can be opened from a mobile, tablet or desktop device so parents will have the flexibility of opening the account on the spot at School Banking Information Sessions or from home at their own leisure. For all new accounts opened online where they have selected to participate in School Banking, a School Banking welcome pack will be mailed to their home address, including their Dollarmites deposit wallet and book. If your child would like to get involved in the School Banking program and doesn't have a Youthsaver account, there are two simple ways for their parents to open one: 1 Online Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open the Youthsaver

account. 2 In branch Visit any Commonwealth Bank branch and our friendly staff will assist. Parents will need to

bring along identification for themselves and their child, like their Driver licence and their child's birth certificate.

The process is very easy for your child to start banking with the Commonwealth Bank. Your child brings in their deposit book to school every Tuesday in class. The teacher will then put in into a satchel and it is sent to the office. The deposit is then processed on the Wednesday and the books returned to class the next day. All you need to do is fill in the deposit slip and enclose the money. There is no minimum or maximum amount its whatever they have to put in. For every deposit they will receive a token and once they have received 10 tokens they can choose a gift. It’s a great way for children to learn saving techniques and you don’t have to spend time depositing money. If you have any queries please leave a message at the school office.
