  • How Tos With Zander MortonHow To: Spray Paint A Board

So you got yourself a new board (you can do this on used ones, too) but didnt have the foresight or cash to get it airbrushed. Fret not my bland friends, heres how you can turn your plain Jane shred sled into a ripping work of art What youll need:-Masking tape-Razorblade-Spray paint-A well-ventilated area-Clear acrylic sealant-Paper to prevent overspray

Step 1-Clean the board thoroughly. Scrape any old wax off and use a rag with a bit of acetone on it to clean the surface up. Even if a board is brand new theres still foam dust on it so make sure its clean! It doesnt hurt to lightly hit the area with a piece of sandpaper thats in the 180-220 grit zone.

Step 2-Sketch your design on a piece of paper or look on the web for some ideas. I went to http://jsindustries.com/sprays for some inspiration.

Step 3-Tape off desired design. While you may wanna get all nuts and create the next great work of art, unless youre name is Rick Griffin, keep it simple stupid. Fill in bigger gaps with paper or cardboard. If you have thin enough tape, go ahead and tape off the stringer for a more professional look.

Step 4-Spray it! After your design is taped off, shake your can of paint vigorously for a few minutes, then shake it some moreyou really want the paint mixed well. As you spray, keep the tip at least 6 from the surface of the board taking care not to flood an area with paint. Your hand should always be moving so as to create an even coat.Step 5Slowly and carefully remove the tape. If you do it too fast or haphaz-ardly youll make a mess of your new design.Step 6- Let the paint dry for at least five minutes, longer if its cool out.

Step 7- Apply a clear coat to seal the design. Ive found that the best sealant is Krylon UV Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. Spray in nice even strokes so as not to create puddles. Let it dry for ten minutes or more and go rip!

  • stokeSTOKE: The reason surfers surf

The Gudauskus brothers, three surfers who visibly wear theit stoked each day, pondered over a way to share some of it through a new kind of surfing event. their vision was to have and event packed with stoke brought about by sharing waves ideas, and stories, while giving back to the community. So on September 15, 2012 at T-Street, their evnet came to life. Blesssed with good swell and great conditions, local groms of all ages were frothing to get in the water. As the event got underway, the groms were taught to have camaradrie amonst each other, and remember why they surf, because of their stoke. T he Groms were more than estatic to have Gudauskas friends and fellow pro surfers show up to the beach, amongst them were guys like Damian Hobgood, Nate Yomans. Christan Fletcher, and 11 time world champ Kelly Slater. All the guys gave the groms helpful advice for their surfing and signed whatever the kids put in

in front of them. A ll eyes were on the water when the pro expression session took place, which even included a few of the lucky groms who were asked by Kelly Slater himself to come surf.

The Day was one that was full of fun, smiles, and laughs. The event raised 10,000 dollars for the Friends of San Clemente foundation, which gives kids in need financial support. All the positive energy, and support from their new pro friends it made a Stoked filled day for every kid on the Beach!
