AARP Tax Counseling 10
I have received correspondence from Jim Piontek, AARP Tax-Aide Milwaukee County District Coordinator, stating that the AARP Tax-Aide Foundation may not allow them to open any in-person tax sites in Milwaukee County in 2021. Their decision will be based upon information from John Hopkins University Stage of Corona Virus. Second, he stated that even if they are allowed to open, the traditional model of tax preparation would be severely limited based on social distancing issues. And lastly, since their tax counselors fall into the Virus age group where most people are becoming very ill and possibly dying, they are not sure how many of the volunteer preparers will return next year. Therefore, they have decided to limit the number of AARP tax sites to open. Grobschmidt Senior Center will not be a site in 2021. Presently, the plan is to open only one tax site in the southeast quadrant of Milwaukee County (if allowed by AARP) and that site would be the Cudahy Library. Last year alone, even with the season shortened due to COVID-19, almost 200 returns were prepared at this site. AARP wants me to get this information out so everyone has advance notice about the closure of the site so they can plan accordingly. Jim also stressed that the goal is to reopen the Grobschmidt Senior Center site in 2022.

Recounting 2020 11
Recounting 2020 Poem by Center Member
Donna Marhal 2020 very sadly, has been quite a year. Some days filled with joy but too many filled with fear. Days full of loneliness, worry and pain, Sitting alone and with little to gain. This spring was so long with nowhere to go, The theaters closed and no movies to show. The Center closed too, no cards and no games, If I don’t see friends soon I won’t know their names. Summer came next and they opened the stores, But the library and theater had not opened theirs. No festivals to go to, or things to celebrate, Restaurants still closed and parks will have to wait. No place to have coffee or visit a friend, We’re all wondering How and When it will end. We’re tired of quarantine and wearing a mask, I want NORMAL now! Is that too much to ask? So if patience is needed, then patience we’ll get. But when it will happen I won’t place a bet. Sooner or later the “new norm” will end And all of our masks to the garbage we’ll send! So call up your families, watch church on TV, Do social distancing, be active as can be. Get out in the sunshine, get out every day, Stay healthy, be happy, keep the virus away.
