    Product Data Bulletin

    Grilamid TR 90

Grilamid TR 90 is a transparent polyamide withgood heat resistance and excellent fatigue

behavior. Grilamid TR 90 also exhibits lowmoisture absorption and dimensional stability.Grilamid TR 90 was developed for use in filterbowls, eye glass frames, tooth brushes andoptical fiber containing cables. It may also beconsidered for a variety of consumer andindustrial applications in which chemicalresistance, transparency and toughness aredesired.Because Grilamid TR 90 contains no plasticiserand resists cosmetic chemicals and perspiration, itcan enhance the design and performance ofpersonal products such as sport and safety

spectacle frames. Grilamid TR 90 is NSFStandard 61 Listed.

    Processing

Grilamid TR 90 is supplied ready for processingin free-flowing pellet form, pre-dried to 0.1%moisture and packaged in multiwall, foil-lined,

moisture-proof bags containing 25 kg net. Foroptimum processing and parts quality, the resin

should be protected from exposure to a humidenvironment prior to processing. If hopper resi-dence times are likely to exceed two hours, use ofa hopper dryer operating at 176F/80C isrecommended.

If the material is otherwise exposed to a humidenvironment for more than two hours, drying isrecommended to ensure that the moisture contentdoes not exceed 0.1% for processing. Use of avacuum dryer operating at 230F/110C for 3-4hours is strongly recommended. A desiccantdryer may also be used, but to avoid oxidation of

the material and consequent discoloration, tem-peratures should be held below 176F/80C, withdrying times between six and ten hours. Forlonger periods, overnight for example, desiccantdrying is acceptable at temperatures notexceeding 158F/ 70C.
