6 th Grade Music Enrollment Form 2016-17 July 31, 2017 Dear 6 th Grade Parents, Welcome to East Cobb Middle School! It’s an exciting time of change for your student. One of the changes from elementary school to middle school is the number of extra classes offered to the students. Music classes are part of the middle school course electives. This is the ONLY time that students can sign up to play instruments. We don’t start students later this year or in the 7 th or 8 th grade. The music programs are divided into two classes: BAND CLASS instruments are the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion (snare drum, xylophone) ORCHESTRA CLASS instruments are the violin, viola, cello, and the bass. CHORUS CLASS is a non-auditioned group that is open to all interested 6 th grade students. Today your child saw and heard all of the instruments offered. If your child wants to play an instrument, sign this permission form below. Pick a 1 st , 2 nd , and a 3 rd choice to tryout from the list. He/she will get to come try those instruments during class over the next few days. It’s not a tryout like a sports team. We are checking body and facial features to make sure your child can physically handle the instrument that they want to play. It takes 5 days because the 6 th grade class has over 400 students. After the tryout, your child and the directors will decide which instrument is the best fit. When that is decided then we will send the supply list for that instrument. Remember, you can only play one instrument so that means you can only play in one class not both. Many of the instruments students will need to rent, while we do have a limited supply of school owned instruments. However, you must buy your own books, mouthpieces, sticks or other supplies. School instruments are usually shared by two students. If you don’t want your child to use a shared school instrument, then you are welcomed to rent or purchase an instrument from a music store. Please contact the Band Hall should you choose to rent or purchase an instrument. REMEMBER THAT YOUR CHILD CAN TRY THE INSTRUMENTS AND ENROLL IN THE CLASS ONLY IF YOU SIGN THIS FORM. NO SIGNATURE, NO TRYOUT, NO CLASS. YOU WILL RECEIVE A SUPPLY LIST AND MUSIC STORE LIST AFTER YOUR CHILD’S TRYOUT AND THEN YOU CAN RENT OR PURCHASE INTRUMENTS AND SUPPLIES WHEN YOU RECEIVE THAT LIST. Dear 6th Grade Parents,
Welcome to East Cobb Middle School! It’s an exciting time of change for your student. One of the changes from elementary school to middle school is the number of extra classes offered to the students. Music classes are part of the middle school course electives. This is the ONLY time that students can sign up to play instruments. We don’t start students later this year or in the 7th or 8th grade.
