Clarification of Documentation Needed to Receive Child Care from Early Learning Coalition

There are two situation which allow you to receive assistance with child care 1. If you have been adjudicated (given custody)

through the court with DCF’s involvement you qualify for child care. There are no stipulations to receiving this service. Child Care last until the child is 9 years of age.

2. If you have a Power of Attorney, no Power of Attorney or Custody through the Family Court and are raising your grandchild you may receive child care from the Early Learning Coalition organization under the following conditions:

You are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Medicaid

Child Care last until the child is 5 years of age. You must provide documentation from DCF that you are receiving the above benefits. Method of getting this documentation: After you apply for TANF, Medicaid, and Food Stamps you will receive a letter from DCF stating that you are eligible or ineligible for funding. If you are eligible you will receive a case number that starts with a number “1.” You can go on the ACCESS website and establish an account which will enable you to print out a statement that you are receiving benefits from DCF. Our office will assist you with this if needed. Call to schedule an appointment 321-631-7776. You must meet the requirements of a Purpose of Need. A Purpose of Need is established by you and your spouse meeting one of the following categories:

Be over 65 years of age

Working for 20 hours a week earning minimum wage

Did You Know?

One in every ten children in the US lives in a household headed by someone other than their parents.

13% of Brevard’s children are being raised without a parent.

Less than 20 percent of low-income grandparents with pressing legal problems are financially able to obtain the assistance of an attorney.

TARGET Training was a HUGE Success

Over 60 people attended the TARGET training course. The comments were very positive about the content contained in the program. Next time we will try and get information on ADHD (the speaker got the time mixed up and arrived late for the session) and someone from Social Security. Thank you all for your participation and we look forward to another training session later this year.
