Greystanes Gazette ISSUE 2 13 October 2017 We’re well into our season now and starting to enter into our busy carnival period leading up to Christmas. Last weekend was our first fun carnival for the season with the running of the Holroyd Shield at Girraween. Although we may have come 3 rd with Girraween overall winners on the day, the kids that turned up had a great day and we were very proud of everyone and their efforts, especially the support that you all showed for each other cheering your fellow teammates on in their events. This weekend we have a group of athletes heading off to compete at the Zone Multi for which the venue has been changed to Fairfield. We wish all the athletes registered for this event all the very best for the day. The very next carnival we want everyone to support is the Garth Robinson Intercentre Competition which is being held on Sunday 29 October at our ground. This is again a fun carnival which is held between all the clubs in the Mid West Metropolitan Zone which costs nothing to enter. We’d love to see the field flooded with the bright orange of Greystanes and ask that you come down and get behind the day to help make it a success for our club. The flyer with all the details and events on the day is at the end of this newsletter. There are also a number of gala days coming up being held at various centres that all athletes are welcome to attend. The flyers for these are attached to the back of this newsletter. We’d like to take the opportunity to point out that the equipment used on Saturdays has been bought and provided by the club and not the council. When any equipment is broken or damaged we need to use the clubs funds to repair or replace this equipment. We’d like to remind parents to please not

Gazette ISSUE 2 13 October 2017

We’re well into our season now and starting to enter into our busy carnival period leading up to Christmas. Last weekend was our first fun carnival for the season with the running of the Holroyd Shield at Girraween. Although we may have come 3rd with Girraween overall winners on the day, the kids that turned up had a great day and we were very proud of everyone and their efforts, especially the support that you all showed for each other cheering your fellow teammates on in their events. There are also a number of gala days coming up being held at various centres that all athletes are welcome to attend. The flyers for these are attached to the back of this newsletter. When any equipment is broken or damaged we need to use the clubs funds to repair or replace this equipment. We’d like to remind parents to please not

allow children to play with or on any of the equipment including sitting in the golf buggy. We do not want to have to start charging people but if we find that equipment has been broken because of athletes mucking around we are going to have no choice but to ask for those involved to contribute to the replacement cost. Please also remember to use caution when out on the field when moving between events and ensure you do so in a safe manner. In particular make sure you stay well clear of the witches hats near the discus cages/shot put areas and always look to see there is not a race in progress before crossing the circular track or straight track. Training is held every Monday and Wednesday night at our ground between 6.30pm – 7.30pm for u7s and up. There is no cost to attend training and it is not compulsory but simply a chance for you to improve your technique. Our coaches cover runs, jumps and throws and we are very grateful and lucky they voluntarily give up their time to help out our athletes. With the warmer weather starting to set in please remember to make sure your child has some sunscreen on and has plenty of water to drink. Each age group has a tub to place the drinks into. Remember to like us on Facebook or download our app which is available on your smartphone or tablet via the Apple or Google Play app store as this is the best way to keep up to date with all the latest news for the club and to check for any cancellations due to wet weather. A guide to downloading the app can be found on our website. For more info see the following websites:
