wins and 18 placings, winning five times over 530
metres at Cannington (30.57), three times over 515
metres at Sandown (29.43), where she also won over
595 metres (34.62) and 600 metres at The Meadows
(34.96).
She has one previous litter on file, with four dogs
and seven bitches, whelped in January 2015 by General
Destini.
Studmaster Paul Westerveld, from Meticulous
Lodge, where the all conquering Barcia Bale stands at
stud, this week announced an increase in his stud fee, to
$4,400 (including gst, frozen only).

A lot of Tears
CRESSY breeder, Mark Rodgers has a litter of ten pups
on the list this week by Australian Cup winner and under

Norris x Tonto Tears), whose dam is by Kiowa Sweet
Trey* x Tears (Token Prince x Tearaway Tears).
She is from a handy litter of six named, which
included Cuddletime Tears, Kid Eager, Pinto Pronto,

Their dam also has winners on file from her three
other litters, including her outstanding litter of three
named, whelped in June 2012 by Bekim Bale, which

Two other litters THE two remaining litters on this week’s Victorian list,
are two dogs and three bitches by Magic Sprite, from the
well bred bitch, Deano’s Gadget (Nitro Burst x
Tizzatango) and one dog and two bitches by Djays
Octane* from another well bred bitch, Donna Ricca
(Collision x Brooklyn Belle).
NEW SOUTH WALES
TURNING our attention to New South Wales, there had
been no details on February whelpings released by
GRNSW at the time of compiling this week’s edition.
Last week we featured reviews on the seven litters
from the report for the week ending January 31 which
had reasonable numbers.
As you can see from the list above, the remaining
five litters on the list all have small numbers, as
evidenced by the 3.4 pups average, and most breeders
with these litter numbers, often keep the whole litter, or
what they sell are already accounted for before they are
whelped, so you seldom see pups advertised from these
small litters.
A couple of litters worth looking out for though
are firstly the two dogs and three bitches, registered by
Glenugie breeder, Tracy Hindmarsh, by My Bro Fabio
(March 2012 Turanza Bale x Flamenco) x Bella Chloe
(January 2011 Mantra Lad x Elite Siyan).
Bella Chloe is from a litter of six named, who all
won races, and she won ten of her 64 starts, up to 400
metres, including five races over 400 metres at The
Gardens (22.70).
Dubbo breeder, Greg Ford, has a litter of two dogs
and four bitches on the list, by Nitro Burst (October
2006 Bombastic Shiraz x Hotburst), from another handy
short course winner, Too Hotta Twist (June 2010 Addis
Boy x Topsy Turby), whose dam is by Master Havoc x
Don’t Tell Me (Elle’s Commando x Layla Bale).
She didn’t do all that much racing, with 18 starts,
for two wins and ten placings, both wins being over 318
metres at Dubbo (18.55).
Hopefully we will have a full list of NSW litters
next week.

Super Night at the Bool By GRV Website
The Britton family was celebrating overtime on
Wednesday night when outsider Leo’s Gift caused a boil
-over in the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup, upsetting warm
favourite Striker Light.
Trained by Robert Britton, who’s currently holidaying
in the United States, Leo’s Gift was a wedding present
to Britton’s daughter Tamara and husband Adam
Tenadii, and he’s been a gift that keeps on giving.
His surprise all-the-way Cup triumph reaped a $47,000
purse and took his earnings to a tick under $130,000.
“Two weeks before my sister Tamara was getting
married a couple of years ago I wanted to buy her a
greyhound pup as a present, so I asked my dad to find
one and we presented him to her at the wedding,” Tim
Britton, Robert’s son and Tamara’s brother, explained.
“We brought the four-month-old pup to the
reception and he was a huge hit.
“So Tamara owns him and I have a small share. I
was just hoping he’d go on to win a couple of races, but
to win a Group race with him is unbelievable.”
Leo’s Gift had been racing consistently without
setting the world on fire over 500 metres in town in
recent weeks before making a winning Warrnambool
debut with an all-the-way 25.35sec heat victory.
At his 49th start, and just his second in a Group
event, having finished unplaced in last year’s South
Australian Derby, Leo’s Gift started at $15.20 from box
five.
Golden Easter Egg heroine Striker Light, chasing
her first feature trophy in her home state, was the $2.90
favourite from box two, head of Anthony Azzopardi’s
fastest qualifier Lucky Chap, another Easter Egg
finalist, which exited the four alley as a $4.30 chance.
Leo’s Gift was best to begin, while Striker Light jumped
fairly and Lucky Chap was moving into a threatening
position before a check put him out of play.
Leo’s Gift turned for home ahead of Raw Ability
and Striker Light and refused to relinquish his
advantage, defeating Striker Light by three-quarters of a
length in a slick 25.08sec, his 16th win from 49 starts.
“Dad is in America right now and I’ve just come
back from there. Dad bought a farm in Abilene (Kansas)
and I’ve been rearing pups there for him,” Tim said.
“I’ve just completed my second six-month stint
there and the plan is to continue rearing litters there.
“We plan to sell a lot of the pups at the greyhound
auctions held regularly in Abilene and if we get a really
good one we might bring it to Australia to race.”
Leo’s Gift is raced by Tamara Tenadi and trained by
Robert Britton of Lara in Victoria. Leo’s Gift is a Fawn
dog whelped September 2014 by Spring Gun from Ruby
Jet (Gable Lafourche x Tui Lid). He has won 16 of his
49 starts and has been placed on 18 occasions and with
the $47,000 first prize for the Warrnambool Cup it took
his current stake earnings to $129,970.
Untapped talent Bewildering completed a stunning clean
sweep of the rich Group 2 Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool
Classic series with a runaway victory in Wednesday
night’s final.
At just his 12th start, Bewildering, trained by
Seona Thompson, upstaged two of the best sprinters in
the land in Lightning Frank and Up Hill Jill when
careering away with the $75,000 to-the-winner Classic.
Bewildering is a son of 2013 Melbourne Cup hero
Black Magic Opal, which also left his mark on the
Warrnambool Carnival, claiming the Cup in 2014, and
he’s raced in the same interests, the See The Dream
Syndicate, featuring long-time Thompson kennel clients
Sergio and Bill Buccilli.
We won the Melbourne Cup and a Warrnambool
Cup with Black Magic Opal among other races,” Sergio
said.
“We bred this dog. He’s a litter brother to Extreme
Magic, who is the quickest dog we’ve ever had.

AGRA News Warrnambool Classic - Continued Extreme Magic tends to grind away in his races
whereas Bewildering is more of a sprinter. In fact, he is
racing more and more like Black Magic Opal did.”
Bewildering had been beaten at his previous five
starts heading into the Classic series, but he stormed
into the decider with commanding heat and semi-final
victories, clocking 24.93sec and 25.40sec respectively.
Drawn in box eight for the decider, Bewildering was
one of only three contenders at single figure odds,
starting at $7.50, with local hero Lightning Frank, a
dual Group 1 winner, dominating the market at $1.50
from the rails and fastest semi winner Up Hill Jill the
$3.90 second elect.
Up Hill Jill won the early speed battle, with
Lightning Frank getting into trouble, while Bewildering
moved ominously into second.
Bewildering swept to the front rounding the home
turn and quickly put paid to Up Hill Jill, powering clear
to score by an ever-widening 4 ½ lengths in an airborne
24.74sec, just .02sec outside Unlawful Entry’s 450m
track record.
“We were very confident. He’s got the ability and
got the bloodlines to achieve anything,” Buccilli said.
“It’s great to race against the best and beat the
best, and with greyhounds like Lightning Frank and Up
Hill Jill in the race it was probably one of the strongest
Warrnambool Classic fields assembled in recent years.
“Lightning Frank is sired by Black Magic Opal as
well so we are always cheering for him whenever he
races, although it was obviously nice to beat him
tonight.”
Bewildering is a Black Dog whelped February
2015 by Black Magic Opal from Outlandish (Collision
x Tocsin) he is raced by the See The Dream Syndicate
and trained by Seona Thompson at Pearcedale in
Victoria. Bewildering has raced 12 times for five wins
and three placings, adding the Classic’s first prize of
75,000 his overall stake earnings they went to $84,765.
McCarthy all smiles after winning the
Queensland Derby By Kathrine Earnst Australian Racing Greyhound for AGRA
JOHN McCarthy remains on cloud nine after his
talented greyhound Rather Dapper won Thursday
night’s Group 2 Queensland Derby (520m) at Albion
Park.
The black and white dog was sent to the boxes as
a $20 shot off the cherry, but managed to slot into
second spot early before finding the lead down the back
and kicking clear to score by one-and-a-half lengths in
29.98.
Fire To Rain ($44.30) (box eight) ran on well to
grab second ahead of early leader Captain Til ($48.60)
(box six).
Despite being one of the outsiders in the
sensational field, McCarthy said he went into the event
giving his charge a genuine chance.
“Since the Vince Curry final where he hit the lids
he hasn’t really been jumping, but I thought if he could
step with them then he would be a bit of a chance,”
He didn’t get out brilliant, but it was a lot better
than he has been and the one box helped.
“Once the six crossed him he got right on its back
in second – down the back he went past it and I
remember looking back at the eight hoping we’d be able
to hold it off.”
Once the son of Dyna Lachlan and Pearl Za
Zinger crossed the line in front, McCarthy said it was
hard to contain his excitement.
“I have still got the smile on my face,” he said.
“It was surreal – I was watching the race and Mick
Zammit slapped me on the back and said ‘you’ve got it
Johnny’ before they got to the line – but I still didn’t
want to get too excited until he crossed the line.
“Once he won it there was pure elation – it’s
lovely to win these races and of course there is big
money on offer – but for me it is just about the thrill of
winning the race – that’s what I’m in the industry for.”
It was an especially rewarding win for McCarthy,
who bred and owns the consistent greyhound, now a
winner of four from 10 with three minor placings.
McCarthy said the win was also a relief after his
greyhound had been defeated in two previous group
race finals.
“I think I am happy to settle for the Derby – it’s a
pretty good substitute for the other two,” McCarthy
quipped. “He went into the Vince Curry and Ipswich
Auction Series as favourite and the luck didn’t go our
way. “I would have hated for the dog to not to win a big
race given how much ability he has and knowing he was
a big chance in the other races.”

McCarthy of Wivenhoe Pocket Queensland. Rather
Dapper is a Black& White dog whelped April 2015 by
Dyna Lachlan from Pearl Za Zinger (Surf Lorian x
Kaycee Diva). He has won four of his 10 starts and with
the $47,250 first prize for the Queensland Derby it took
his current stake earnings to $52,566. Neil Brown AGRA Publicity Officer

SA coursing dates until 30 June are listed below.
The remaining dates for July – September will follow
once allocated.
We start off our season by running 4-dog stakes – which
appeases the track enthusiasts who do not wish to put
their dogs in an 8-dog stake as they don’t believe they
can run 3 times in the one day, even though it should be
remembered that its only 2 dogs that have 3 runs, and
this is certainly not a problem in Victoria.

BRED TO WIN Our weekly selection of
greyhounds to follow, based on
their breeding and recent
performances.
DEAD EYE DICKSON
White & Black dog, August 2015 Fernando Bale x Oh
Cee Ya.
Beautifully bred youngster, raced by James
Pattinson and by Gavin Gledhill at Coomboona.
Got into more trouble that the early explorers at
his first start, over 515 metres at Sandown, on 7 May,
after starting from box three.
Began OK and showed good track sense at the
first turn, before he struck trouble and was then checked
three or four times before finishing well back.
FEEL YOUR HEART Blue brindle dog, January 2015 Cape Hawke x Charlie
Salute.
Trained at Tooradin by Stanley Ralph for the
Dales syndicate.
Had no luck at all when fifth from box one over
515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 7 May, when beaten
9.49 lengths in the race won by Weeona Paul (30.14).
Was well placed going down the back when he
got cut off and was never a chance after that.
That was his third race start after a fifth over 400
metres at Warragul on 21 April, then a handy 29.95 win
from box three over 515 metres at Sandown on 30 April
so he obviously has plenty of ability and should strike
back very soon.
SMALL ROSE
Black bitch, December 2014 Banjo Boy x Classy
Caitlyn.
Raced by Paul Schroeder and trained at Toora by
Kenneth Height.
Four starts now for a Sale 440 metres win (24.98)
on 23 April and two placings over 311 metres at
Cranbourne.
Big step up in class and distance when good third
over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 7 May when
beaten 10.2 lengths behind Shadale (29.56) who won by
8.6 lengths.
That was a great run and has plenty of promise.
