Philippine Environment Philippine Environment Partnership Program (PEPP)Partnership Program (PEPP)

• Supports industry initiatives to improve their environmental performance thru the adoption of pollution prevention and cleaner production processes.

• Provides a package of incentives and reward mechanisms to industries that include regulatory privileges and assistance

Industrial Eco-watch System

• Program that rates industries' environmental performance in color codes: from gold (the best performance), silver, green, blue, red and black (the poorest).

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

• CDM under the Kyoto Protocol, targets cutbacks in carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere;

• Philippines has already 57 CDM projects registered with the United Nations CDM Board, ranking the country the 7th in the world in terms of the number of CDM projects.

• DEPARTMENT OF ENERGYDEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

• programs to accelerate the use of renewable and alternative energy sources and promote more efficient power generation and conservation;

• DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRYDEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY

• promotes the establishment of world class, environment-friendly economic zones all over the country to respond to the demands for ready-to-occupy locations for foreign investments;

• DEPARTMENT OF TOURISMDEPARTMENT OF TOURISM

• promotes Ecotourism particularly in rural areas in the country; and under the GREET Program gives assistance in the form of financial aid, provision of skills, knowledge, values formation and other entitlement to projects and programs that espouse environmental sustainability;

• DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYDEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

• promotes the adoption of cleaner production technologies that will strengthen competitiveness of Philippine industries thru the Integrated Program on Cleaner Production Technologies

Water Recycling

Water RecyclingA manufacturing company in Metro Manila that produces oral care, personal care and household products

• uses recycled water coming from its reverse osmosis water treatment facility.

• recycled waters are used in their vacuum pumps and to cool down some equipment used in their operation.

• company saves around 20 cubic meters of water per day from this environment-friendly practice.

Waste to Energy

Methane Recovery

• Cement companies in the Philippines uses new

• forms of selected and pre-qualified waste

• material and by-products from other industries

• as either alternative fuel or alternative raw

• material.

• Co-processing of industrial and residual wastes

• to derive thermal energy in cement clinker

• production helps decrease the use of fossil

• fuel and carbon dioxide emissions.

Building Efficiency

Buildings in the country are getting in the green bandwagon, with the Philippine Green Building Council pushing for the adoption of a Green Rating System, particularly as buildings are reported to account for an estimated 40% of total greenhouse gas emissions.

A semi-conductor company in the Cordillera Autonomous Region has the first building in the Philippines to gain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The company’s building was built with respect to the sun’s path to minimize unwanted heat gain and to maximize natural daylighting.

• Sustainable energy savings programs •

– - building management systems: replacement of lightings– and chillers

(company to save around 4,920,867 kw-hrs of electricity or 2,952,520.20 kgs. Equivalent reduction of CO2

emission)

– - Brewery in Mandaue City energy conservation efforts:• reduction of light use and aircon• replacement of incandescent bulbs with energy-

saving bulbs• optimized ammonia compressors which contributes

to 40% of the plant’s energy consumption. (Total energy conservation efforts led to savings of 8% for

power and water alone or over Php18million in generated savings.)
