OUTLINE What is Green Chemistry? What is Ionic Liquids? Solvent Properties of Ionic Liquids Principles of Green Chemistry Introduction Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
Chemistry is dominated by the study of species in solution. Although any liquid may be used as a solvent relatively few are in general use. However, as the introduction f cleaner technologies has become a major concern through out both industry and academia.
WHAT IS GREEN CHEMISTRY?
Green chemistry is the use of chemistry for pollution prevention. More specifically, green chemistry is the design of chemical product and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.
WHAT IS IONIC LIQUIDS?
Ionic liquids are organic salt, that are liquids at or near room temperature .Many ionic liquids can be recycled and reused repeatedly .
SOLVENT PROPERTIES OF IONIC LIQUIDS
They are good solvent for a wide range of both organic and inorganic materials
They are often composed of purely coordinating ions.
They are immiscible with a number of organics solvents and provide a nonaqueous, polar alternative for to phase systems.
They are non volatile.
PRINCIPLES OF GREEN CHEMISTRY
It is better to prevent waste than to treat or clean up waste after it is formed.
Substances that possess little or no toxicity to human health and the environment.
Chemical product should be designed to reserve efficacy of solution while reducing toxicity.
Energy requirements should be recognized for their environmental and economic impact and should be minimized.
A row material feedstock should be renewable rather than depleting whenever technically and economically practical.
Catalytic reagents are superior to stoichiometric reagents
CONCLUSION Ionic liquids are green because they are not
volatile but we have to took how they are made all the way through to recycling and disposal.
