A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT It has been my privilege to serve as the interim President and CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE), a public-private partnership established to professionally market the Greater Rochester, New York Region as a competitive, high-profile place for business location and growth. This month, we are pleased to introduce the first edition of “Talk It Up Rochester” — a newsletter to facilitate the communication of GRE’s activities, as well as our partners’ efforts to bolster the economic landscape of this region. We chose the name “Talk It Up Rochester” to serve as a rallying cry for each of us to remember that we must be ambassadors for our region. Be proud of this region and the abundance of assets that make this a great place to live, work and raise a family. When I assumed my role at GRE, it became clear to me that in addition to serving as ambassadors, we all play critical roles as matchmakers and rainmakers. As matchmakers, we connect businesses with resources to thrive in Rochester. As rainmakers, we lead initiatives to increase resources for businesses that call this region home. We at GRE are also continually working to foster a true collaboration with our regional partners within government, business and community organizations to create a thriving environment for existing and new businesses. To that end, GRE extends our appreciation to our New York State, Monroe County, Wayne County and City of Rochester partners who help make this collaborative approach possible: • For Empire State Development, Jack Kinnicutt, Director, Finger Lakes Regional Office; and Kevin Hurley, Economic Development Specialist • For Monroe County, Terry Slaybaugh, Director of Planning and Development; and Judy Seil, Economic Development Manager • For Wayne County, Peg Churchill, Director, Wayne County Industrial Development Agency • For the City of Rochester, Carl Carballada, Commissioner of Economic Development; and Paul Morrell, Senior Economic Development Specialist GRE’s primary mission is to be accretive to the existing economic development process and pursue business attraction opportunities that maximize the use of our regional assets — plant, property or human resources — to be an economic driver for the Rochester Region. Our region is already starting to see success from the collective efforts of our regional economic development team. But success would be impossible without true collaboration. GRE and our partners need each other to succeed, and we, in turn, need the community’s help to grow our regional economy even more. In short, we need you to help us “Talk It Up” as ambassadors, rainmakers and matchmakers for business development and growth of the Greater Rochester, New York Region.
