Happy Easter! I hope your family and friends enjoy a fun and bonding holiday! The signs of spring have arrived! The tree leaves are popping out! Flowers are appearing! I love early spring when the leaves are new and yellow-green before maturing into their dark green summer color. Spring
brings a feeling of renewal and hope - and that's something we could all use!
The weekend that I wait for all year is almost here!! It's retreat time! I can't wait to spend a whole weekend painting! I don't have to cook, clean, or worry about work. All that is required is me and my paint brushes! Of course the painting is fun, but retreat is much more than that. It's a chance to hang out with friends and make new ones. It's amazing how friendships can be re-newed or newly formed while painting together.
Have a great month of April and I will see you at the retreat!
Linda :)

Here’s a reminder about our Service Projects for 2017.
First, we are painting Memory Boxes to be distributed in October which is our Ser-
vice Month. The Memory Boxes will be available at the monthly meetings and at
Retreat. There will be a Memory Box painting station at Retreat, and Jan Bowen is
supplying the paint. Please bring your own patterns. You can paint the boxes at
Retreat or, if you prefer, take them home to paint.
Second project is the collection of art supplies for Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School
in Reading, Ohio beginning in May. We hope to give a good amount of supplies to
the art teacher by the first of Sept. See the teacher’s wish list on the next page.
Thanks to you all for your time, talent and treasures!!!

2017 GCDA SERVICE PROJECT
ART EDUCATION WITHOUT ART SUPPLIES?!?!
One of our service projects is to provide assistance to a school with an art teacher but no budget for art supplies.
A school was found: Sts. Peter and Paul Academy in Reading, OH. This school has no financial support beyond fundraising, tuition and donations. Much of the staff is comprised of qualified volunteers.
The art teacher is eager to advance her students in the
exploration of artwork beyond construction paper and markers. Below is her dream wish list of supplies.
Let’s be a part of enabling these children to experience the transforming and awesome power of art in their lives.
Donations of art supplies and/or cash are welcome!
Art Supply Wish List provided by Sandy Pierce-Harsch, Saints Peter and Paul Academy
* Acrylic & Tempera paints: 1-gallon sets for each of primary, secondary, black & white colors. * 30 small to medium sized paint smocks.
* 30 children’s scissors (5 lefties). * Air dry clay for 130 children.
* Water color paper. * Masking tape. * 130 canvases.
Donations may be brought to any GCDA meeting.

2017 CHRISTMAS BASKETS AND ORNAMENTS Melanie Wilmhoff, Coordinator
Embroidery UpdateEmbroidery UpdateEmbroidery UpdateEmbroidery Update
Melanie Wilmhoff, Coordinator
At the March meeting I returned embroidered items to Suzanne Fairbanks, Stephanie Hauser, Linda Kohler, Michelle Kohler, Carole Arend, Sherida England, Pat Hull and Linda Whaley. They showed them to the members who were at the meeting. The items were different kinds of aprons, different kinds of shirts and a tote bag and all were very nice!
I received orders for ten (10) more items and have ordered them. I am trying to get them all back by Retreat. I will bring them to retreat for those of you who will be there.
If you did not get an order in this time, I will be accepting orders at the May meeting. You can order an item from the catalog or you can bring in your own item to have it embroidered. The fee to have something embroidered is $10. Remember to prewash your items (without using any fabric softener) and clearly mark the item with your name. If you order something from the catalog, I will have to get the price (price includes embroidery and tax) and get back to you. We must have at least six (6) items at a time to have them embroidered.
Please feel free to contact me with questions.
Melanie Wilmhoff
Where did all the cold weather come from?? Hope you have been stuck inside so you can get your paintbrushes out and get those ornaments/baskets painted! Wouldn’t it be nice to have that done so you don’t have to keep thinking about it?
At the March meeting, Suzanne Fairbanks turned in her beautifully painted basket. (At right) Great job Suzanne! I also received ornaments from Theresa Morris earlier in the month. Thank you both! Melanie
