Helping all become one with God ST TERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH - MONCHES & NORTH LAKE March 2017 Great Job, Parishioners! By Fr. Bill Stanfield The expansion at our North Lake church has been a real blessing for us. It has turned out to be more than many expected and is providing all sorts of new possibilities and, of course, new issues to figure out. The look of the space is so bright and appealing that parishioners and visitors are truly lead into a worshipful mood and the desire to praise God’s goodness and presence within us. I want to thank all of those who helped work on the planning and design of all the various aspects of the expanded space. You did a great job! Now we want to make good use of this new space for worship and for community-building experiences I hope you will all be part of. Many of you helped in many different ways to make the expansion a reality. It will hopefully be complete shortly after Easter (especially the outside work), and we will again celebrate and take pride in our success. We have raised more than the $1.8 million projected cost in pledges and have even been able to add some things that weren’t part of the original plan. Due to pledges, we added improvements like the stained glass windows (the original plan had clear glass), wood finishings, lighting, flooring and heating coils in the steps and ramp to the main entrance to melt snow and ice. In addition, signs and statues of St. Teresa will be installed in spring at both North Lake and Monches. If you haven’t yet donated or would like to increase your donation so that we might be able to include all of these items in our capital campaign, please contact Chris at the Parish Office, or [email protected]. We will hold an official Dedication Celebration on Wednesday, May 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in church to which all parishioners are invited. The evening will begin with a prayer service and donor recognition, and include tours of the church along with a reception in the Gathering Space. Watch for more information soon. I hope and pray that this new space will be an opportunity for us to recommit ourselves to expand our parish efforts to Grow With God. Thank you again for your support and all you have done so far to make this a truly successful and wonderful parish effort. In particular, I want to acknowledge those who kept the expansion in their prayers; we couldn’t have been successful without His help. God’s blessings. The new stained glass windows include this reflection of St. John the Baptist near the northern entrance. On the other side of the door is a window honoring St. Clare. They help us remember our history which plays such a pivotal role in the identify of our parish.

ST TERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH - MONCHES & NORTH LAKE March 2017

Great Job, Parishioners!

By Fr. Bill Stanfield

The expansion at our North Lake church has been a real

blessing for us. It has turned out to be more than many

expected and is providing all sorts of new possibilities and,

of course, new issues to figure out.

The look of the space is so bright and appealing that

parishioners and visitors are truly lead into a worshipful

mood and the desire to praise God’s goodness and presence

within us.

I want to thank all of those who helped work on the planning

and design of all the various aspects of the expanded space.

You did a great job! Now we want to make good use of this

new space for worship and for community-building

experiences I hope you will all be part of.

Many of you helped in many different ways to make the

expansion a reality. It will hopefully be complete shortly

after Easter (especially the outside work), and we will again

celebrate and take pride in our success. We have raised more

than the $1.8 million projected cost in pledges and have even

been able to add some things that weren’t part of the original

plan. Due to pledges, we added improvements like the

stained glass windows (the original plan had clear glass),

wood finishings, lighting, flooring and heating coils in the

steps and ramp to the main entrance to melt snow and ice. In

addition, signs and statues of St. Teresa will be installed in

spring at both North Lake and Monches.

If you haven’t yet donated or would like to increase your

donation so that we might be able to include all of these

items in our capital campaign, please contact Chris at the

Parish Office, or [email protected].

We will hold an official Dedication Celebration on

Wednesday, May 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in church to

which all parishioners are invited. The evening will begin

with a prayer service and donor recognition, and include

tours of the church along with a reception in the Gathering

Space. Watch for more information soon.

I hope and pray that this new space will be an opportunity

for us to recommit ourselves to expand our parish efforts to

Grow With God.

Thank you again for your support and all you have done so

far to make this a truly successful and wonderful parish

effort. In particular, I want to acknowledge those who kept

the expansion in their prayers; we couldn’t have been

successful without His help.

God’s blessings.

The new stained glass windows include this reflection of St. John the Baptist near the northern entrance. On the other side of the door is a window honoring St. Clare. They help us remember our history which plays such a pivotal role in the identify of our parish.

Prayer and Worship Committee By Tom Hansinger This has certainly been an exciting and blessed time for our St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish family. Nearing the end of the 2016 church year last fall, we were energized and inspired by the many Year of Mercy activities and our wonderful celebration on September 25 to honor the canonization of our patron and recognize our new name. Planning for that Mass was exciting and a little daunting. In December, only through the hard work of so many, we were finally able to return to our North Lake church and joyously rejoice at being in our expanded North Lake church for Christmas. All of us have so much to be proud of as we continue to carry out our Parish Mission: Continue the ministry of Jesus Christ through word, worship, service, and community building. Prayer and Worship Committee members look forward to energetically continuing our work in 2017, especially our focus on ways to increase parishioner engagement in and support of our ministries. Our recent parish newsletter on ministry opportunities that was provided to all parishioners contains a great listing and summary of the many ministry needs and ways to minister in our parish. We have found that reaching out to prospective ministry candidates through personal contact, conversation, and invitation to serve has been very successful. The Prayer and Worship Committee members have been focused on growing the number of our usher and greeter hospitality ministers, choir members and cantors. We plan additional efforts to increase the number of Eucharistic Ministers, also known as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. You can expect to see representatives of these and other ministries at Friendship Sundays and at other weekend Masses as we move forward. Ministry representatives will be there to provide information, answer questions, and invite individuals to serve in one of our ministries. Please prayerfully consider how you may support our parish needs in one of these or other ministries. If you have an interest in participating as a member of our Prayer and Worship Committee, please contact Tom Hansinger at (262)646-0675, Mary Jo Romportl at (262)966-2191 Ext 103 or Kay Moen at Ext 104. Our committee members extend a special thank you to Fr. Bill, Chris Slowinski, Mary Jo Romportl, our fellow committees and the Parish Council for their continuing leadership, cooperation and support of our work.

Parish Life By Mary Jo Romportl The Parish Life committee oversees the many social events of our parish. In addition to the ongoing Christian Women gatherings and Friendship Weekends, this dedicated group of parishioners becomes very involved with the annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening, the Parish Festival, and the Feast Day Celebration. Last year we were so pleased to have planned a “really big event” in celebration of Mother Teresa’s canonization- and it turned out to be another awesome parish gathering! This included Mass with the Archbishop at North Lake School, a short program after Mass in the gym, then a great chicken dinner and activities at Fireman’s Park in North Lake. It took months of planning, lots of volunteer help setting up, taking down, moving items to and from the school and the park - coordination and cooperation is what makes the events successful! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, April 29, 5:30 p.m., for the Volunteer Appreciation Evening; Saturday, June 10, for the Parish Festival; and Sunday, September 3 for the Feast Day Celebration. Details will follow. Our committee enjoys working on these projects together and welcomes new members to join us at any time. You only sign on to do what your schedule allows and we only meet five or six times a year, with a few extra meetings before large events. Please consider joining us at our next meeting on March 20 at 6:30p.m. For more information or if you have questions about the committee email

[email protected] .

Vacation Bible School By Jennifer Ishizaki Join us for an exciting week of faith, fun, and song July 17-21 from 9 a.m. until noon. This year Vacation Bible School will explore the Maker

Fun Factory by playing games, building fun, and learning about God. We invite all kids entering 4K in the fall (must be potty trained) through grade 4 to attend. I am looking for help. I need adults to help run the class rooms, people to help make and set up decorations, drivers to help me pick up supplies, kids/adults to help run small groups, and much more. If you hear God calling and are interested at all, please call Jennifer Ishizaki at (262) 966-7010.

Thursday, March 9 End of Life Issues-Advanced Directives

How does prayer help us when making decisions when we are healthy? When we are gravely ill? Dr. Mark Repenshek, PhD., is nationally known as an expert in the field of modern health care ethics and is from Columbia St. Mary’s, Milwaukee. He will share the Catholic Church’s moral teachings about end of life issues. He has helped patients and families navigate the complex decisions that can arise when someone is gravely ill. He will also share some case studies and there will be plenty of time for questions. Dr. Repenshek will also provide attendees with Advance Directive materials. Bring a family member to hear this important information.

Thursday, March 16 World Without End: The Last Things

Explore the Church’s conviction that life here and now is preparation for an extraordinary world that is yet to come—a supernatural destiny. In Bishop Barron’s Catholicism series, he presents the Catholic vision of death, judgment, heaven, hell and purgatory as he journeys to Florence, Ireland and Rome. The vision of the Church sees beyond this world and invites us to consider a world without end. Bishop Barron shows how this vision is supported by the mystery and truth of the Resurrection. We will talk about the importance of praying for those who have died.

Thursday, March 23 The Fire of His Love-Prayer and

the Life of the Spirit In this lesson, Bishop Barron explores Catholic Spirituality, which is centered on prayer. The Catechism states: “Prayer is the lifting up of the mind and the heart to God.” On pilgrimage to places where the great saints and spiritual masters lived, Bishop Barron explores

the different types of prayer: contemplation; adoration; petition; and intercession. He shares stories of saints and demonstrates how the human person can be transformed through prayer that manifests a deep, spiritual commitment centered in Christ.

Wednesday, April 5

Eucharistic Adoration As we prepare to enter into Holy Week, Deacon Allen will share the history of Adoration. Praying Our Experiences St. Paul challenges us to “pray unceasingly.” But what are ways that we can pray our experiences (personal and in community) so that we can enter more fully into the mind and heart of Christ? Most of us struggle to even find time to pray during our hectic lives and especially during those life experiences of joy, sorrow, fear, anger or even happiness. With our guest speakers, Bishop Barron’s Catholicism videos and facilitation by Fr. Bill, we hope to learn ways to have lives of real prayer through the experiences that touch our hearts.

At our parish, Reconciliation is offered every Saturday from 3:30 to 4 p.m. at North Lake. In addition, there will be two penance services with St. Charles Church, Hartland. The first will be on March 30 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles, and the second with be in North Lake on April 1 at 10 a.m. Other local parishes also offer these services: Sat., March 18, 1:30 p.m., St. Jerome, Oconomowoc Mon., Mar. 20, 7 p.m., St. Dominic, Brookfield Wed., Mar. 22, 7 p.m., St. John Vianney, Brookfield Wed., Mar. 22, 7 p.m., St. James, Mukwonago Sat., Apr. 1, 10 a.m., St. Joan of Arc, Nashotah Sat., Apr. 8, 10:30 a.m., St. Peter, Slinger Little Black Books People look forward to receiving this booklet every year to help their Lenten journey. It includes readings and prayers from the Sunday before Ash Wednesday through to Easter. Each day, the left side of the booklet features Catholic traditions and customs, the saint of the day and other historical tidbits. On the right are verses of the Passion according to John. Give Us This Day This book includes all of the reading for each day in March. Also, you’ll find several articles, prayers and blessings, night-time prayer and daily prayers. There is also a guide to the practice Lectio Divina, a beautiful way to pray that includes reading and re-reading several verses of the Bible. Then, the person is asked to ponder what was going on in the reading, and include themselves as observers or participants. Listen to what God is trying to tell you - be quiet and let Him speak to you. Is He silent? That’s part of the prayer process as well. There are slightly different versions of Lectio Divino, but these are the steps that are most common. Rosary During Lent, the Rosary will be said Monday, Thursday and Friday following daily Mass. Stations will take place on Wednesdays.

The 1% Challenge is an invitation to encounter Jesus in Scripture through prayer

1% Challenge cards were handed out the weekend before Lent. If you didn’t get one for yourself, there are more at the back of both churches. We speak about prayer a lot, but with our busy lives, we sometimes find it difficult to find time to pray or read the Bible; we tend to give God what’s left over in our day, rather than intentionally setting aside a consistent time and place to talk with the love of our life, Jesus. This Lent, use the 1% Challenge to jumpstart your prayer life! Consider the readings suggested on the card, and following the steps of Ask, Seek, and Knock, as outlined on the card. How to Prepare Purchase a Bible if you don't have one, or go to the

USCCB (United States Council of Catholic Bishops) site, or other Bible app to access the readings.

Refer to the 1% Challenge card during Lent. Daily scripture passages are indicated for you to read and pray about.

Set aside 15 minutes a day to pray. Make it a habit.

What a great way to walk with Jesus through Lent.

More Lenten Prayers

Stations of the Cross Stations are prayed every Wednesday following 8 a.m. Mass and every Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Both will be offered in North Lake. Reconciliation There are many opportunities to seek God’s forgiveness and remove any barriers keeping us from a loving relationship with Him through reconciliation.

Getting To Know You The Evangelization Committee, and Mary Hobert in particular, is putting together hosts, established parishioners and new people for evenings of food and low-stress friendship and fellowship. These Getting To Know You dinners are a way we are looking at to greet and welcome new people to St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Remember what it’s like going to a party and knowing no one? Imagine that same experience visiting our parish for the first time. We want to help new people feel more connected to our parish and to our friendly parishioners. The dinners will be a time to get to know those new people so that they will recognize people when they come to church. And that just makes people feel more comfortable. If you would like to be a host, an established parishioner guest or a new person or family, contact Chris at the Parish Office, 262/966-2191, ext. 130 or chris@stteresaofcalcutta. org.
