Terrapin Station is Giateiui Dead music at its very best. It's the Dead as you've never heard them before.

Fameii iur hi^'.vurk as a guitarist, singer and composer with the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir has recorded a great album that showcases the entire scope of his remarkable talents.

Jerry Garcia's bano features Keith and Donna Godchaux, Ron Tutt, John Kahn, and Merle Saunders and a great style all their own.

While rock fads have'come and gone throughout the past decade, the Grateful Dead have remained a constant in contemporary music. Their longevity is not indicative of stagnation at all; rather legions of Deadheads have been att racted by the new ideas and sounds that the Dead never s top creat ing.

The Grateful Dead have always been synonymous wi th the glorious, youthful days of the Surreal Sixt ies. That myster ious band f rom the West Coast emerged wi th many different styles and moods. Even wi thout the big AM hit, the Dead have created a huge fo l lowing that can only be descr ibed as the wor ld 's largest fami ly.

It all began in 1959 when lead gui tar ist / Jerry Garcia hooked up wi th lyr icist Robert Hunter. By 1965 the nucleus was assembled as the Warlocks. Bob Weir played rhythm guitar. Bill Kreutzmann handled drumming chores, Phil Lesh learned bass in order to join the band, keyboardist Ron " P i g p e n " McKernan groaned the blues, and Garcia played lead axe. Later percussionist Mickey Hart jo ined to give the Dead its double barreled drumming at tack.

il D e a d Keyboardist Keith Godchaux and vocal ist Donna Godchaux jo ined before Pigpen's untimely death. The Dead were spawned f rom San Francisco's thr iv ing psychedel ic cul ture of the late s ix t ies . From the Dead's earl iest days they earned a reputat ion as a superb live band. Their spacey, highly improvisa-t ional mus ic is dependent on their individual musical ta lents. They are t remendous music ians, and bring a uniqueness to every song in their vast repertoire.

The Dead come to Giants Stadium as legends in their own t ime. They are popular recording ar t is ts, stars in their own feature length movie, and underground heroes. Col lect ively they are a dr iv ing force in command of their sound. As masters of their art, they mesmerize their audience through sheer r lusical magic.

Today that magic is being spread at Giants Stad ium. Their appearance recal ls the memorable show last year at the Engl ishtown raceway.

Welcome Grateful Dead to New Jersey.

W i l l i e N e l s o n Wil l ie Nelson is damn near the King

of Country Music r ight now. The progressive country movement that he has led has far surpassed the more tradit ional Nashvi l le sound in terms of a lbum sales. Wi l l ie sel ls mi l l ions of records now; it is ironic that the Out law has become King.

Nelson is unique in contemporary music . Certainly grouping him wi th progressive country out laws like Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, and Tompal l Glaser is fair, but his of fbeat phrasing, dark, deep songwr i t ing , and unpred ic table a lbums put h im in a category

all his own. Who but Wi l l ie Nelson cou ld release

an album like Stardust , a co l lec t ion of his ten favori te songs, and sell mi l l ions of them. Wi l l ie knows what the people want to hear f rom his years in the honkytonks.

Wi l l ie is no stranger to outdoor affairs. His "Wi l l ie Nelson's Annual Fourth of July P icn ics" are major musical events every year by all s tandards. Today he comes to spur New Jersey's progressive country movement to even greater heights.

have remained a major concert attract ion in the eight years s ince their fo rmat ion. The band has always showcased the ta lents of rhythm gui tar ist / vocal ist John " M a r m a d u k e " Dawson and lead guitarist/vocalist David Nelson. The current l ineup of NRPS includes Patrick Shanahan on drums, Allen Kemp on bass, and Peter Grant on pedal steel guitar.

The band was created in 1970. Besides Dawson and Nelson, NRPS includes Dead members Garcia, Hart and Lesh. By the t ime they recorded their f i rst LP, New Riders of the Purple Sage, only Garcia remained f rom the Dead, w i th Dave Torbert (later Kingf ish), and Spencer Dryden (former Jef ferson Airplane drummer and future NRPS manager). The f ine debut LP preceded a series of s t rong records. Classics li l je " H e n r y " and "Panama Red" have been added to the general musical vocabulary of our generat ion thanks to NRPS.

The New Riders of t l ie Purple Sage appeared at the huge Englishtown celebration last September. They are here w i th us again as last year to usher in the c lose of another Jersey summer. It is pract ical ly t rad i t ion.
