Great Government

Psalm 135:1-12 says,

1. Praise ye Jehovah. Praise ye the name of

Jehovah; praise Him, O ye servants ofJehovah,

2. Ye that stand in the house of Jehovah, in

the courts of the house of our God.

3. Praise ye Jehovah; for Jehovah is good:

Sing praises unto His name; for it is

pleasant.

4. For Jehovah hath chosen Jacob unto

Himself, and Israel for His own possession.5. For I know that Jehovah is great, and

that our Lord is above all gods.

6. Whatsoever Jehovah pleased, that hath

He done, in Heaven and in Earth, in the

seas and in all deeps;

7. Who causeth the vapors to ascend from

the ends of the Earth; Who maketh

lightnings for the rain; Who bringeth forththe wind out of His treasuries;

8. Who smote the first-born of Egypt, both

of man and beast;

9. Who sent signs and wonders into the

midst of thee, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and

upon all his servants;

10. Who smote many nations, and slew

mighty kings,11. Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og

king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of

Canaan,

12. And gave their land for a heritage, a

heritage unto Israel His people.

Praise ye Jehovah. Praise ye the name

of Jehovah; praise Him, O ye servants ofJehovah,(verse 1). That's the way

Psalm 135 begins. It's strange that the

psalmist has to instruct us to shout

hallelujah, but he goes on to tell us why.

Great Government

First, we should praise God because of

His goodness. Praise ye Jehovah; for

Jehovah is good: Sing praises unto Hisname; for it is pleasant(verse 3). We

sometimes take God's goodness for

granted. He is good, and His goodness is

unsearchable. God shows us His

goodness in both material and spiritual

blessings.

Second, we should praise the Lord for His

grace. For Jehovah hath chosen Jacob

unto Himself, and Israel for His ownpossession(verse 4). Israel was not a

treasure before God chose her. After He chose

her, she became precious. God also chose us.

Jesus said, "You did not choose Me, but I

chose you" (John 15:16). God showed His

grace by choosing us to be His children.

Great Government

Third, we should praise Him for His

greatness. For I know that Jehovah is

great, and that our Lord is above all

gods(verse 5). What god is like our

God?

Finally, the psalmist tells us we should

praise God for His government.

Whatsoever Jehovah pleased, that

hath He done, in heaven and in earth,

in the seas and in all deeps(verse 6).

He then describes God's sovereignty increation and in history.

Great Government

Whatever your situation, you can stop

and praise the Lord for His goodness,

His grace, His greatness and His

government. He is managing all of

creation and all of history to bring about

His purposes. Let God use you to do Hiswork.
