they choose; however, the Great Dane Club of California as a Club endorses the Great Dane Club of America’s Rescue Programs.

Please Welcome - New Members

The following applicants were voted in at the November 2016

Closed Meeting. Please welcome them into our club when

you get a chance. GDCC is again sponsoring the Great Dane Breed Booth at the

Pet Expo this year. It will be held at the Orange County

Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa . This is a very important activity as

it's our chance to educate the public about our breed!

What do you need from you??? YOUR SUPPORT AND

HELP!!!

First of all, we need doggie volunteers!! All ages, colors, sex,

ears cropped or natural are welcome! HOWEVER, this is an

intense and tiring day for the dogs as they are constantly being

petted, in close quarters with other dogs and people, and alot of

noise. If you would like to volunteer yourself and dog, we'd love

to have you, but please be sure your dog can function under

control in close quarters with other dogs and people. They

have to be "bombproof".

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please no bitches in season!!

Second of all, we need people volunteers too! Even if you don't

have a dog available to man the booth, we can use you!

There's hundreds of people asking questions about our great

breed. (How many times can you answer -- How long do they

live? How much do they weigh? How much do they eat?, etc.)

It's fun to talk to all the people who visit this big event.

If you can volunteer any or all of the days of the Pet Expo for

at least a couple of hours, the club greatly appreciates it.

Pat Schempp is coordinating the set-up and volunteers for the

Many people who are searching for just the right puppy look at

members. Unfortunately, not everyone always has the most

up-to-date info to give out and share with the public.

puppies or an older dog looking for their forever homes,

Dear Members of the Great Dane Club of California, Thank you for honoring our fifty year membership in the GDCC at the

Awards Dinner. We were very touched by the beautiful introduction that Cathy

Schaefer gave us. And then the standing ovation. We were so

overwhelmed with emotion that neither of us could stand up and say a

word. We just sat there trying to hold it together. Fifty years! It seems

like just yesterday we brought home our first Great Dane. The beginning

of a love affair with these gentle giants who touch all of our hearts. Along

the way we made some wonderful friends, visited some famous kennels

that no longer exist and met some of the famous dogs of the past. It has

been an incredible journey. We thank you for your kindness. We thank you

for the beautiful clocks that sit proudly in our home. (Mindy has beautiful taste!) Most of all we thank you for your

friendship and thoughtfulness at this time in our lives. We shall never forget that glorious moment.

"NORTHERNAIRS BLUE SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT CGC” (Shadow) just got his Service Dog Certificate. Shadow can turn on and off the lights, open the door, pick-up and recover a dropped item, guide a person up and down stairs, he goes to malls, restaurants (slips under the table and waits patiently till you are finished you meal), stores, and planes. He does all this with love in his eyes, and a kiss for anyone he thinks needs one. Judith, my wife took Shadow through the whole learning process, and with love and patience they have become a team. Shadow is owned and very loved by Bill and Judith Mahoney.

We’re very proud to announce the recent accomplishments of GCH WHISPERING PINES

KAYDEANS LIKE HELL I WILL (“Hades”) who took Best of Breed and Group 1 at the Arrowhead

Kennel Club Show (Judge Mr. Steven Gladstone), a Best of Breed and Group 4 at the Arrowhead KC

Show (Mr. Charles Trotter), and a Best of Breed at the Scottsdale Dog Fanciers (Ms. Angela Porpora)

(3 of 4 days of the show weekend). He followed it up with a Best of Breed at the Orange Empire Dog

Club Show under Judge Mrs. Sioux Forsyth-Green. Hades is proudly loved and owned by Rickey &

Lorrie Burnham & Mindy Donovan-Tandy.
