What is good (and bad) design?

11

Is this good design?

12

Is this good?

13

• The main task users have is to search for flights, and that form is hidden.

What about this? Good? Bad? Meh?

14

Huh? What is what now?If your buttons need instructions, they aren’t useful buttons.

Small dialogs and error messages also need design

15

Imagine if it was your job to use this every day.

16

Does your toilet have this many buttons?

17

Even door handles need design!

18

Handles are for pulling, flat panels are for pushing.

What are you supposed to do here?

What next? DESIGN!

Your team will choose one of the following problems to solve.

Then design an app (either phone, tablet, or web) that meets the requirements the school stated.

27

Problem 1: The school wants to allow kids to have more time to eat without increasing overall lunchtime.

Request:The school wants a way for kids to order lunch ahead of time so that it can be waiting at their seat for them. ______________________________

Problem 2: Kids don’t always have time to browse in the library and sometimes don’t even have much more than a few minutes to visit the media center.

Request:The school needs a way to allow kids to search and check out books so they are ready to just swing by and pick up.

28

Design assignment:

Sketch ideas for your app or website. Use as many pages as you need for the views you think are important.

Think about the tasks you, the student will need to take to accomplished the goals stated in the requirements.
