UnitingCare is the brand name for the Uniting Church’s Australia wide network of community services.

This national UnitingCare graphic style guide has been produced to retain the integrity of, and maintain a common identity for, all UnitingCare materials.

The graphic style guide is also a guide to help achieve maximum results in the reproduction of artwork when incorporating the UnitingCare logo. The UnitingCare brand, including the logo and bylines, is to be used in accordance with thisgraphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

This graphic style guide demonstrates the correct use of the logo and supporting type in various situations. It should be brought to the attention of any graphic designer and/or printer undertaking work using the logo.

Consistent and appropriate use of the logo extends and reinforces the UnitingCare image. Correct usage helps to protect UnitingCare’s interests and ensures that supporters who use the logo receive maximum benefit.

To ensure continuity of the logo the UnitingCare state office in your Synod is to be consulted and provided with samples of proposed use.

It is recognised that there are different Synod structures in each state. This may impact on how the UnitingCare logo/brand is represented and who can use it. Please contact UnitingCare in your Synod for clarification.*

* In NSW and ACT, community services should contact UnitingCare NSW.ACT for a copy of the NSW Identity and Style Guide.

Foreword

UnitingCare Graphic Style Guide

Page 4: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

This is the second edition of the UnitingCare’s National Style Guide, first published in 2000.

It is important that Uniting Church community service organisations are clearly identifiable with the UnitingCare national brand.

UnitingCare consists of hundreds of community service organisations and programs nationally. These community services provide residential and community care to many individuals and groups, based on an ethos of honouring the dignity of all people, working towards the social good in community, restoring human relationships and advocating for those most disadvantaged in society.

A shared identity will support our work with other national agencies, churches and peak bodies, reinforcing UnitingCare as a leader in the public policy environment in Australia. By communicating a shared common brand, UnitingCare will develop into a a leader in the public policy and community service environment in Australia. This will allow UnitingCare to give life to a vision of the common good, a vision which is supported and strengthened by the innovative models of service delivery and fresh approaches to local need, provided through its network of agencies.

This revised and updated Style Guide retains our core logo and identity, while recognising that the decentralised structure of Uniting Church organisations may need some local variations in the detail of printed material and signage.

This edition builds on the excellent work from our original Style Guide. It has been assisted by positive contributions from many, including members of the UnitingCare National Brand Development Committee.

Thank you for your support in this important area.

UnitingCare is one of the largest providers of community services in Australia, providing services in every State and Territory.

UnitingCare consists of more than 400 organisations that provide a network of care to communities right across Australia.

UnitingCare’s network of services is supported by 75,000 staff and more than 25,000 volunteers.

UnitingCare Vision, Mission and Values

Page 8: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

Two versions of the UnitingCare logo exist to allow adaptation and flexibility in the use of UnitingCare material.

Logo 1

Horizontal symbol with lettering underneath.

Logo 2

Vertical version with lettering on the right hand side.

Either logo may be used to suit the space available.

Logo Usage

A Registered Trade Mark, the UnitingCare logo is a carefully balanced design and therefore no alterations to the composition or proportions may be made.

Only one UnitingCare logo should appear on any one page at a time.

The UnitingCare logo should not be obscured by, or lay over the top of, any text or other logo.

The logo must be used in accordance with this graphic style guide for all publications, products and promotions. These will include all letterheads, envelopes, business cards, compliments slips, brochures, newsletters, covers of publications, reports, merchandise such as T-shirts, caps and stickers, and on official vehicles, office signage, banners and advertising.

Details for use of the logo with the addition of state or organisation name is outlined on page 13.

When resizing the logo ensure that correct aspect ratios/proportions are maintained so that no distortion of the image occurs.

It is not recommended the UnitingCare logo be used as a watermark due to its intricacies. The Uniting Church dove image may be used as a watermark, but may not be flipped or rotated.

If the logo is to be faxed the black and white version is to be used.

The logo must be used on the front of stationery, including letterhead, business cards, with compliments slips and envelopes.

One Colour

When using the logo in a single colour the preferred colours are to be either Pantone 484, Pantone 5815 or black.

If the logo needs to be used in a colour other than the corporate colours it must be one colour only (black and white logo to be used). In very special circumstances, it is acceptable for established organisations to print the UnitingCare logo in their established corporate colour. However, this requires approval from the relevant Synod to ensure the integrity of the UnitingCare logo is maintained.

Two Colour

The two corporate colours for the logo are:Pantone 484 (outback red)Pantone 5815 (gum green)

Web Colours

Conversion of the corporate colours to web safe colours are as follows:5815 Green Websafe #666633 RGB R102 / G102 / B51484 Red Websafe #993333 RGB R153 / G51 / B51

Four Colour Process (CMYK)

To help the printer or colour separations bureau reproduce the corporate colours in four colour process, specify the following breakdown:

Pantone 484 (outback red)Cyan (C) 0% Magenta (M) 87% Yellow (Y) 83% Black (K) 30%

Pantone 5815 (gum green)Cyan (C) 0% Magenta (M) 0% Yellow (Y) 91% Black (K) 79%

Red Green Blue (RGB)

Pantone 484 (outback red)Red (R) 63.8% Green (G) 12.2% Blue (B) 11.7%

Pantone 5815 (gum green)Red (R) 27.6% Green (G) 22% Blue (B) 8.4%

The colour UnitingCare logo may appear on a different coloured background only if the colour is complementary and the UnitingCare logo maintains clear identification.

Printing the corporate colours (Offset printing)

If printed correctly, the pantone colours should appear as they have been intended according to the pms colour samples.

If the press is inked up too much or too little, the colours will appear too dark or too light.

Matt paper will make colours appear duller due to the absorbance of the paper. If Outback Red (Pantone 484) appears too brown, an alternative would be Pantone 180 (Brighter Red) on matt paper only.

UnitingCare Graphic Style Guide 10

Logo Colour

Four Colour Process/RGB

The word ‘care’ in both colour logo options is a 30% screen

of Pantone 5815

The UnitingCare colours have been chosen to represent colours from the Australian landcape. They are earthy, bright and friendly without being overstated. Pantone 484 red is subtle and keeps a link to the traditional Uniting Church logo red.

Pantone 5815 Green was introduced to replace black and give a softer and darker companion to the red.

In Reverse

Reversing the logo is notrecommended, as it does not reproduce well. However, if reversing the logo out of a solid background colour, it should always be white (not another colour). The background colour should be dark or contrasting enough to maintain clear identification.

Page 11: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

UnitingCare Graphic Style Guide 11

The UnitingCare corporate colours should be used in the design of full colour material. This will ensure that all full colour UnitingCare material coordinates nationally.

The addition of more colours should compliment the corporate colours.

Colours such as blue, gold, earthy orange/ochre and a deeper green could be used but not be overpowering.

Bright colours such as aqua, pink and pastels are not recommended.

Page 12: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

The UnitingCare logo should not be altered in any way, except to add the name of a UnitingCare organisation beneath it.

In the logo the word UnitingCare consists of the font: Myriad MM 565ww 700wd for “Uniting"

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

and Myriad MM Italic 830ww 600wd for “Care”

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz The name of the UnitingCare organisation should be written in Outback Red (Pantone 484) using the font Myriad MM Italic 830ww 600wd.

If this font is not available, please contact UnitingCare in your Synod to obtain a logo with the name of your agency, community service or organisation. As a last resort, Arial should be used in italics.

Publication Typefaces

The word UnitingCare should always be written as one word with an uppercase U and C. The ‘Care’ in UnitingCare is not written in italics, except in the logo. When not linking the word UnitingCare with the logo it can be reproduced in any complementary typeface. However, it should not appear to be reproducing the logo type as used in the symbol.

To create a consistent appearance throughout UnitingCare materials, the recommended typefaces are Arial or Times. Other options are:

Sans Serif Arial Helvetica Light Helvetica Bold Helvetica Black Univers

Serif Times Palatino Bookman

The fonts listed are a guide only. A variation of these fonts is acceptable if the recommended typefaces are not available.

Positioning

When positioning the UnitingCare logo alongside other organisational logos, the UnitingCare logo should be positioned to produce an equally balanced group of logos. Logos can be positioned more than 10mm apart. However there must be no less than 10mm between the UnitingCare logo and any other logo.

When positioning other logos on UnitingCare stationery it is recommended that multiple additional logos be placed at the bottom of the page.

Size

The UnitingCare logo must not be reduced in size to less than 35mm wide for Logo 1 or 25mm High for Logo 2. If the logo is reduced more than this the linework will deteriorate. The only circumstances in which the logo can be reduced are:

1. Corporate sponsorship

2. Co-branding

3. Press advertisements.

In these circumstances, it is appropriate to reduce the size of the logo, but to no smaller than 20mm wide for Logo 1 or 15mm high for Logo 2.

Incorrect Usage

Misuse of the UnitingCare logo devalues it. When a logo is stretched out of proportion it might be inappropriately distorted (see below.) Please ensure that you maintain the aspect ratio when enlarging the logo.

Page 15: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

UnitingCare logos in various formats are available from UnitingCare in your Synod on a CD ROM. The choice of logo file will depend on the software into which it will be imported.

On the CD ROM versions 1 and 2 of the UnitingCare logo appear in the following formats in folders specifically for indicated use:

1. Logos for Printers and Graphic Designers (EPS & TIFF files) – high resolution

2. Logos for in-house use (JPG files) – medium resolution

3. Logos for websites (GIF) – low resolution

The CD ROM also contains UnitingCare graphics, the dove and the red corner. The dove may be used as a watermark feature but must not be flipped, reversed or distorted. Its aspect ratio must be maintained.

Logos must be placed or imported into a software file as a graphic or picture – otherwise they will not open. For example, if using Microsoft Word, choose ‘insert’ menu, then ‘picture’ then ‘from file’.

When the UnitingCare logo is printed using a black and white laser printer, it is important to use the monotone black logo (not a colour version) to avoid the logo appearing in a tone (dots).

How the logo appears on screen will not be a good indication of how it will print out due to different screen resolutions. It is important to check that the logo appears correctly on the printout/hardcopy.

The EPS, JPG and TIFF files supplied are suitable for reproduction purposes such as offset printing as they are a minimum of 300dpi.

GIF files are not of high enough resolution for offset printing and are designed for use on websites.

UnitingCare Graphic Style Guide 1

Electronic Logos

The CD Rom includes a pdf copy of the graphic style guide, to ensure UnitingCare logos are used correctly.

Page 16: Graphic Style Guide - portals.victas.uca.org.au · graphic style guide at all times. This is particularly important when the logo is used by organisations other than UnitingCare.

Letterhead

UnitingCare has developed three versions of the letterhead to offer choice when selecting stationery.

Options 1 and 2 are designed for use by Uniting Church organisations that use ‘UnitingCare’ as part of their organisational name.

Option 1 uses the horizontal UnitingCare logo

Option 2 uses the vertical UnitingCare logo

NB. When placing a name along side the vertical logo the base of the name must be level with the base of the logo.

Option 3 is designed for use by Uniting Church organisations that have an already established organisational identity but co-brand with the UnitingCare logo. In this case either the vertical or horizontal logo may be used in accordance with the graphic style guide.

Option 4 is designed for established Uniting Church organisations that have permission from their Synod to represent their relationship with UnitingCare using an approved byline.

This graphic style guide also displays specifications for UnitingCare branding or co-branding for:

– With Compliments slips

– Business cards

– DL and A4 envelopes

– Fax Cover sheets

With Compliments Slips

Options for using either horizontal or vertical UnitingCare logos are displayed on page 21 and 22.

When using taglines on the with compliments slip they should be positioned at the base of the sheet either centred, left or right aligned. The text should be in the same font as specified on Option 3 letterhead and text size may vary according to the number of words.

The words “With Compliments” may be moved to accommodate logos and taglines. See example on page 21.

Business Cards

Options for using either horizontal or vertical UnitingCare logos are displayed on page 24.

It may be necessary to make type size smaller or run addresses in 1 line the width of the card to accommodate long addresses and email addresses.

Paper stock

It is recommended that clean crisp white paper stock be used as opposed to coloured, textured, or speckled paper.
