Sip • Savor • Splurge

I started working with Sisters Tea Parlor and Boutique in Buckner, KY in Summer 2011 and helped them both as a cashier and as a social media liaison during the school year. I was motivated to purchase InDesign so I could assist them in creating signage while I was in school at BU.

These two logos are from my Graphics Communications class in Spring 2012, since we were assigned to create both a flier and a logo for the class by using Illustrator. The flier to the left was actually used to promote one of Sisters’ special tea events. The logo above, though, was just from my own creativity and was not used for the store because they already have a workable logo. I enjoyed making both of these items because I was able to work with my “girly” and feminine side. I like the pastel colors and the soothing hearts that come from the tea pots.

These two images were created from the Photoshop section of my Graphics Communications class. We were assigned to create both a music poster and a collage through the Photoshop program. I was inspired to make a collage of all of the things that remind me of our wonderful state of Kentucky. How many images can you recognize? All of the images from the collage were used through the Creative Commons licenses and were found on Flickr.

I was inspired to create the Lady Gaga music poster after attending her concert last March at the Yum Center. One of the required tasks for the poster assignment was to include a scanned image. For fun, I decided to scan one of my black-sequined tank tops. I never would have imagined that the scanner would bring out all of that color! The circular discs found at the top and bottom are the scanned sequins. I also used the Pen tool to freehand the Louisville skyline, the Lady Gaga logo, and the lightning bolt that I used as an “S” in the word Louisville.

Kentucky Taxpayers...

TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

The Endow Kentucky Tax Credit Expires June 30, 2012

“Taking advantage of this opportunity to support Kentucky charities and reduce my state tax

bill just made good sense.”

-Mimi ZinnielLouisville Resident

and Life-Long Philanthropist

By making a gift to a new or existing endowment fund at the Community Foundation, you may qualify for a state tax credit in addition to your Federal tax deduction. This is a tax-wise way to create a lasting legacy and support Kentucky charities, counties, or communities forever.

Through the Endow Kentucky legislation, you may claim a state tax credit of up to 20% of your charitable gift to a permanent endowment at the Community Foundation. The maximum tax credit for qualified charitable contributions is $10,000 per taxpayer (20% of a $50,000 charitable gift.)

Approximately $230,000 in state tax credits remain available to individuals and corporations on a first-come, first-served basis until June 30, 2012. To be eligible for the Endow Kentucky tax credit, you must receive prior approval through the Kentucky Department of Revenue before your charitable gift is made.

In February 2012, I was honored to receive a internship with the Community Foundation of Louisville. Since then, I have been able to further my knowledge in various aspects of the communications realm, and have been able to demonstrate my graphic design skills by creating several mailing postcards. The postcard featured here was created to promote the Endow Kentucky Tax Credit and was mailed out to all of the Community Foundation donors and affiliates, and was created by using InDesign.

Special thanks to:

This postcard was created with InDesign as well to promote Community Foundation’s annual Professional Advisor Seminar. I really enjoyed making both postcards but this one was my favorite so far. I liked my idea of transforming the colors used in their logo by creating a line of colored squares. This postcard was also mailed out to all of the donors as well, and it was additionally used online in an E-News blast to help expand awareness and promote attendance.
