Dear Commission X Member:

Greetings to continuing commission members and welcome tonew members of Commission X. Since the high'ly successfulconvention in St. Louis I have been searching for ways toexplain why this commission seems to be involved in theforefront of activity within ACPA.

It must be in part due to the'leadership of past chair AnandDyal-Chand who has lead the Commission in the cooperativeproject with Cynthia Johnson to develop a five year plan forinternational linkages. It must be in part because of theexciting new leadership evidenced by new program chair, DavidSundberg (Central Missouri State), new newsletter editor,Sarah Baker (Western Illinois University), and the many newcommission and directorate members.

It must also be because of an awareness in the commissionitself of the increasing importance of the internationaldimensions of our work. That awareness will culminate inL992 a+- the ACPA convention fn San Francisco when the entireconference will have an international theme. For these andother reasons this is a very important year for CommissionY

The Grapevine is our medium of communication on internationalissues in student development. If you wish to share a book, article or study through the Grapevine please let me knowor write directiy to Sarah Baker, Grapevine editor. We areparticularly interested in new insights coming out of theNAFSA conference on international programs and other studentdevelopment conferences. Our newsletter is not limited sowe will make every effort to publish your ideas.

The focus for this issue is A Call for Proposals for the 1991convention in Atlanta. I invite you to share your insightsthrough a Commission X sponsored program or a program co-sponsoredby Commission X and another commission, or task force, orstanding committee. Send your proposals to David Sundberg,Program Cha'ir, by August 3rd.
