For the month of November we are doing
a school wide attendance incentive. Eve-
ry day that a class has 100% attend-
ance they get to add a letter to their card.
The first class to spell "Showing up!"
wins a prize for the class. We understand
that some absences are unavoidable, but
please encourage your students to attend
every day and
help their class
earn the prize!

November Principal’s Message It’s hard to believe we have already completed the first nine weeks of the school year. Please note that report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, November 7
th. A special ‘THANKS’ to all parents/guardians that were able to attend parent/
teacher conferences on October 18th and 23rd. We had a 98% participation rate
school-wide this fall. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!! We are always looking for parents interested in joining PTO. Our next meeting is scheduled for November 5th at 6:30 pm. I would LOVE to have more parents join our great community of friends and collaborative partners! Please remember to have appropriate outdoor clothing for your child as the winter season approaches. Students will be outside EVERY DAY unless temperatures drop below zero! Students should always have appropriate coats, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves. As we transition into early winter, please also remember how important it is for all school-age children to have good attendance. A recent Columbia University report found that children that missed 10% or more of school days in a year were in the lowest-achieving group the following year. Poor attendance in K-1 may erase many of the benefits of preschool. Only 13% of children with poor attendance in grades K-3 test-ed at grade level in reading compared with 77% of those with good attendance in those early grades. Another more subtle cause of lost learning opportunities is tardiness. At Grant teach-ing begins when the bell rings at 8:30 AM. Every minute of instructional time is im-portant and the first few set the tone for the rest of the day. When a child is late they not only miss this important instructional time, but when they walk into class after it has already begun, it interrupts the learning of their classmates as well. Please do your best to help your child stay healthy, have good attendance and arrive to school on time.
Sincerely,
Mr. Nyman
