Plan to be a part of it! 2020 is “The Year of the Census,” and we are helping to ensure that all senior citizens in Grand Traverse County are counted. It is important to respond to the census, because it helps our community obtain needed funds, and guides local businesses to make data-driven decisions which, in turn, grow our economy. Census data will impact our daily lives and support important decisions about funding for services and infrastructure in our community (such as health care, senior services, jobs, political representation, roads, schools, and businesses) for the next decade. More than $675 billion in federal funding flows back to states and local communities each year based on census data.

Quick Facts • All census responses are safe and secure, and may not be used against you. By law, no personal information

may be shared. • How you respond is your choice -- securely on line, by U.S. Mail, or by telephone. Online responses are safe

from hackers and other cyberthreats. • The U.S. Constitution mandates that everyone in the United States be counted every ten years. The first U.S.

census took place in 1790. • very ten years, census results are used to reapportion the House of Representatives by determining how

many seats to which each state is entitled. • Although mandatory, responding to the census also is an opportunity to participate in our democracy and say,

“I count!”

On the dates listed below, staff and volunteers will be on-site to help you complete the census survey on line. It will take no more than 15 minutes. No reservation necessary, just stop by and say, “I count!” You must bring in the postcard mailed to you with your unique i.d. number.
