He has been released from prison but remains under ‘house arrest’. Turkish Presi- dent Erdoğan has made a number of demands for the release of Pastor Brunson, including what can only be described as a ‘ransom demand’ of $1.8 billion. A Turkish citizen held by Israel, was released 1 day after the President spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu. United States President Donald Trump asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to release the Turkish woman suspected of helping Hamas, as part of a deal revealed in the Washington Post to release an American pastor held by Turkey, an Israeli official confirmed to Haaretz Friday. According to the report and as confirmed to Haaretz, in a phone call between Trump and Netanyahu on July 14, Trump asked Netanyahu to release Ebru Özkan, a 27 year-old Turkish citizen who was detained by Israel last month on suspicion of being a dan- ger to state security and conspiring with terror organizations. From hps://www.haaretz.com/middle-east-news/trump-pressured-israel-to-release-detained-turkish-terror-suspect-1.6316994 Andrew Brunson is sll being detained in Turkey (a NATO ally) aſter nearly 2 years! The Turkish court once again denied another appeal for Pastor Andrews release from house arrest and the removal of the travel ban against him. In short, they are refusing to let this innocent American come home. The President had strong words for Turkey as he addressed reporters at the White House. They should have given him back a long me ago, and Turkey has in my opinion acted very, very badly, Trump told reporters at the White House. So, we havent seen the last of that. We are not going to take it sing down. They cant take our people. The President also sent a message directly to Pastor Andrew through Twier, calling him a wonderful Chrisan pastorand leng Pastor Andrew know that he considers him a patriot hostage.” From https://aclj.org/persecuted-church/president-tweets-message-to-pastor-andrew-brunson-letting-him-know-he-considers-him-a- patriot-hostage Please connue to pray for the release of Pastor Brunson and consider signing the peon for his release at the ACLJ link above. Fall Festival The annual St Thomas Aquinas Fall Festival is just around the corner. This year’s festival will be held on Sunday October 14, 2018. Our council will again provide the main meal and operate the concession stand. We will also have Bingo later in the afternoon, and provide the refreshments. The main meal will consist of brisket, beans, potato salad, iced tea, lemonade and all the usual ‘fixin’s’. The concession stand will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cheese nachos and soft drinks - all of the items young boys and girls need to balance their diets. We will even sell these nutritious items to adults (you must bring a notarized permission slip from your cardiologist however). Obviously, we will need help from a significant number of Knights to make this happen. That is where you come in. If you can work the kitchen, sell hamburgers, help with Bingo, pour melted cheese on some nacho chips, make change for a $10 or any one of a number of tasks, please contact me (email below), come to our next regular meeting (9/6 @ 7:30) or talk to any Knight. You can also just come to the festival on Sunday October 14 and look for the Knight that most resembles a horse that was rode hard and put up wet and take his place for an hour! One hour of your time at the festival will help us a great deal! Or if you like to cook, we can use your help in that area the day before the festival. If you are good with a knife (a kitchen knife that is), I think there will be a truckload of potatoes to peel or boil or do whatever else one does with potatoes for the potato salad. There are always other things that happen when a meal is prepared that you can help with too. Remember that I told you that I am not allowed in my own kitchen so I am a bit fuzzy with these details (I think my wife finally got that ‘kitchen restraining order’, so it is at least a misdemeanor for me to set foot in the kitchen – or was it any kitchen?). All proceeds go directly to St Thomas Aquinas. Please help us support our parish, eat well, play some Bingo and have a good time! Thank you, Richard Janeski [email protected]

Where did the summer go? The first day of Fall is Sunday September 23, 2018. With that said, we have a very busy Fall schedule ahead of us with the 4th Degree Exemplification, St Thomas Aquinas Fall Festival, Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner.

Please get involved in the upcoming events where your time and talents permit.

Reminder to all 3rd Degree Knights, the Fall Fort Worth 4th Degree Exemplification will be Saturday October 6, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Community in Colleyville, TX. If any 3rd Degree knight is interested in joining the 4th Degree and attending this exemplification, please contact me or any Assembly officer for further information. All applications and other paperwork must be submitted by Friday September 21, 2018. Please take some time to consider joining the 4th Degree, the Patriotic degree of the

Knights of Columbus.

Sunday September 30, 2018, Assembly 2042 will pray the Patriotic Rosary before the 11 am Mass. Our Faithful Admiral, Anthony Caranna, will lead the rosary which will start at 10:30 am. Once again, I invite all knights and their families to join us before Mass

to pray the rosary.

During these troubling times, I ask you to continue to pray for church leaders, priest and to give them guidance in leading our church forward out of these difficult times. Remember, we are the right arm of the Catholic Church and we need to support our Catholic Church and our priest where and when needed. We should be proud of our catholic faith and willing to defend it when called upon.

We are blessed to be American Catholics. Please continue to pray for much needed rain for our area.

God Bless,

Marty McDermed Faithful Navigator Assembly #2042

newest 4th Degree Sir Knight, Father John Martin became a member of the 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus on Saturday August 18, 2018. On Saturday August 11th, 2018, Assembly 2042 Sir Knights presented a check for $300 to the Shepherd’s Storehouse. The donation is given annually in honor of SK Dennis Nortman, PFN, for needed school supplies

for the upcoming school year.

VATICAN CITY - By virtue of their Baptism, every Catholic is called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ - a mission which cannot be separat-ed from the Catholic Church, Pope Francis said Sunday. “It is truly [our] Baptism that makes us missionar-ies,” the pope said in off-the-cuff comments July 15. “A baptized person who does not feel the need to proclaim the Gospel, to announce Je-sus, is not a good Chris-tian.” The first necessary ele-ment of all authentic missionary discipleship is the “changeless center, which is Jesus,” he said. This is because proclaim-ing the Gospel cannot be separated from Christ or from the Church. Continued on next page

LTC Is an Important Piece of the Puzzle There are many financial consultants and retirement authori-ties who emphasize the need for a long-term care (LTC) product for estate preservation and family protection. While many commercial life insurance companies have gotten out of the long-term care business, the Knights of Columbus considers LTC a very important piece of the family protec-tion puzzle. The Order has been actively offering our mem-bers this product for nearly 15 years without a premium in-crease on current policyholders. Members who wisely pur-chased an LTC plan from the Knights in 2000 are still paying the same premiums today. Even better, our LTC coverage is backed by the full strength of the Order, which remains root-ed in our strong Catholic values. Talk about stability when it counts. If we have not spoken about your need for LTC coverage in your family portfolio, please take some time out of your schedule to meet with me. Remember, long-term care policies are underwritten based on your health, and you most likely will never be any health-ier than you are today.

VATICAN City Continued: Jesus’ message to his disciples in this episode of the Gospel con-cerns not just priests, but every baptized person, who is “called to witness, in the various environments of life, the Gospel of Christ he said. Like the disciples were warned, the message may not be wel-comed, but this aligns with what Jesus himself experienced, the pope said, noting that he was “was rejected and crucified.” “Only if we are united with him, dead and risen, can we find the courage of evangelization,” Francis said. Noting that the center of the mission must always be Christ, he pointed to examples of saints from Rome who are examples of being “humble workers of the Kingdom,” such as St. Philip Neri, St. Benedict Joseph Labre, St. Frances of Rome, and Blessed Ludovica Albertoni. They did not work to advance themselves or their own ideas or interests, but acted always as messengers sent by Jesus, he said. Pointing to the Blessed Virgin Mary as “the first disciple and mis-sionary of the Word of God,” the pope concluded by asking her help to bring “the message of the Gospel to the world in a humble and radiant exultation, beyond any rejection, misunderstanding or tribulation.”
