SECTION 1 – GENERAL INFORMATIONROLES There are four roles within the UNSW Global Assessment Platform for each school. They are School Coordinator, Unrestricted Teacher, Teacher and Student. The tasks and responsibilities for each role are outlined below.

SCHOOL COORDINATORThis role is initially assigned to the school staff member who signed up for Jet Assessments.

This user role gives access to complete the following tasks:• import/create/edit students• create/edit teachers• enrol students into a test• access reports for all students.

UNRESTRICTED TEACHER & TEACHERTeachers are responsible for managing the delivery of tests to students in the classroom. An Unrestricted Teacher automatically has access to all the classes and students in the school. A Teacher has access to the class(es) assigned to them by the School Coordinator.

This user role gives access to complete the following tasks:• create/manage test sessions• print student usernames and passwords• access reports for students.

STUDENTStudents are the test takers. They access the Jet Grammar & Punctuation assessments by logging in to unsw.global/start.

JET GRAMMAR & PUNCTUATION TEST DESIGNJet Grammar & Punctuation is a low-stakes computer-adaptive assessment. It assists Year 3–6 teachers in understanding their students’ knowledge and skills in the areas of grammar and punctuation.

Due to the multistage adaptive design of the assessment, students are presented with different pathways depending on how well they perform at each stage. This means that students in any given academic year will have answered different questions to each other.

Links to the most appropriate Australian Curriculum: English outcomes have been provided where available.

Teachers should ensure all relevant students have completed their assessments before analysing the results at a school, year or relevant class level.

Page 5: Grammar & Punctuation - UNSW Global · 2020-06-01 · Jet Grammar & Punctuation is a low-stakes computer-adaptive assessment. It assists Year 3–6 teachers in understanding their

5Section 1 - General Information | Grammar & Punctuation User Guide

The reports provide rich and timely diagnostic information which teachers can interpret in the context of their own classrooms. Each teacher is best placed to use the results to identify student strengths and weaknesses, and adjust their teaching and learning programs accordingly. To form a richer picture of student performance, the results should be reviewed in conjunction with other assessment data that the school may have for their students.

Reports are available at school, year, class and student levels.

Results are reported across four content subdomains that cover five grammar levels:• Foundations (word-level and group/phrase-level grammar)• Within Sentences (clause-level and sentence-level grammar)• Between Sentences (text-level grammar)• Punctuation (all levels).

SECTION 4 – APPENDICESAPPENDIX 1: TECHNICAL READINESSThe Technical Readiness Check (TRC) is designed to test the compatibility of your school’s computers/devices with the online assessment software. Every computer/device that will be used for the assessment, including spares, must be tested. If a computer/device does not display correctly, then an alternative device will need to be used. It is recommended that an IT support officer or class teacher with knowledge of the school’s computers/devices performs this task.

The TRC must be conducted the week prior to your test date. This will ensure there is enough time to resolve any issues prior to the test.

TRC checklist

This TRC must be performed on all computers/devices that will be used for the assessment.

Turn on the computer/device.

Enter the following website address into the browser:https://www.unswglobal.unsw.edu.au/educational-assessments/support/technical-requirements/

The webpage will open and automatically run an online technical diagnostic check.

Ensure the device passes the first five checks. • JavaScript• Screen size• Browser version (includes operating system)• Content Delivery Network (CDN) support• Audio & video

Connection speed test – This is a manual check. Click on the link that appears and press start test. Please ensure that the ‘download speed’ allows at least 10Mbps per 100 users for this test.

If any check fails, refer to the Technical requirements for the trial (overleaf) to check if the computer/device meets the technical requirements.

The TRC is now complete.

Should you have any questions, contact Customer Service.
