PRESIDENTS REPORT The Annual Jacaranda two day Rally this year was a great success & thoroughly enjoyed by all participants, especially the group of Austin Healy owners who attended from Brisbane, Gold Coast and Wagga Wagga. A truly great group of enthusiast who made our event one to remember.

The Saturday Static display held in Duke Street, displayed some 75 vehicles of various variety and age, with a steady flow of admirers throughout the morning.

The Gateway Village kindly allowed the use of their Lilypond Kitchen assembly room for the Saturday evening Dinner due to threating weather conditions.

Rappville Hotel was the wind up for the Rally. Which hosted & supplied a magnificent luncheon meal for 65 persons. (Some very wet from downpour and tops down).

Our Christmas Party is at the ever popular Brooms Head this year. Do get your acknowledgments in by December 9th for catering requirements.

I wish to thank members who attended the working bees at Jabour Park, the meeting room & kitchen areas have

been painted and are looking great.

Regards

Doug Clark

EDITOR’S COMMENT Welcome to the December edition of the Grille. My apologies for leaving the minutes out of the November magazine. Our sponsors advertisements are back this edition so please consider supporting the businesses that support your club. For those not yet receiving the magazine and outing notifications by email, please consider the electronic option and get your magazine in colour.

Don’t forget the buy swap sell and help advertisements for club members and outsiders. Advertisements will be free for club members and run for 2 months. There are 2 particularly good buys advertised this month. I test drove the Austin and it rides like a new car. You can email articles and photos of your cars or you can send by snail mail to 21 Bowtell Avenue, Grafton.

We have missed activities as Robyn is busy with singing with the Criterion Theatre and I am busy as their lighting engineer. Their Christmas musical this year is “All Shook Up”, featuring the music of the King. After watching the first week I recommend this production to you all.

Regards

Peter & Robyn Nixon

BRUSHY RUN

A monthly run to the Brushgrove Recreational Park (called the Brushy Triangle by us), Clarence Street Brushgrove. This community park has shade, toilets open 24/7 and an electric BBQ shelter with sink.

The run is for vehicles with H plates, between 8am and 5pm on the designated day each month and allows you to travel from your residence to Brushgrove where you might enjoy morning tea, read the paper, enjoy a picnic or pub lunch or a later run for afternoon tea. It’s up to you. Or you may simply do the run and return home. This doesn’t of course mean you can go via Glenn Innes! If the rules are not adhered to we will have to take the run off the calendar. Any questions please call myself or John.

Members must advise prior by email to myself [email protected] or by phone 0419 888 902 or to John Snape [email protected] phone 6645 2377 that they intend to do the run. Your particulars will then be recorded.

XJC 40TH

ANIVERSARY MUSTER

The Jaguar Car Club organised a muster on 16th-18

th October to celebrate the release 40

years ago of| Jaguar’s rarest production model the XJC coupe, based on the very successful Series 11 sedan. Total production of just over 10000 cars between Jaguar and Daimler versions and the majority being left hand drive. In fact our Jaguar V12 is one of only about 600 right hand drive of the model. The rally was held at Echuca on the Murray over 3 days and included registration reception, grand dinner, paddle steamer lunch cruise, museum visit, street parade with 37 XJCs and a similar number of ‘ordinary’ Jaguars taking part and ending in a Show and Shine on the river bank. A 3000km round trip to Echuca seems like an effort for just 3 days, but at the wheel of a great car it is a pleasure, that is until the big long straight of nothingness of the Newell Highway intervenes and 110kmh limit gets in the way. The event organisers planned the perfect event with everything going like clockwork and other owners only too willing to socialise and share their experiences.

Only 10 years to wait for the next major celebration.

A GREAT COLLECTION OF CARS BY JIM LESLIE On a recent trip to the U.K., my wife dragged me away from Castles, Cathedrals and picturesque villages and forced me into a number of Car Museums. I put up a brave fight but in the end gave in to keep the peace and endured some of these establishments. The Beaulieu Museum had a large variety of vehicles, with a large number of Veteran and Vintage models, lots of racing cars and a fine collection of bikes with a few theme displays. Be sure you are cashed up as this is the most overpriced place we visited. The Haynes (of workshop manuals) Museum has more cars, set out in groups with no particular themes, a good bike section and is an easy place to get around.

The Wild Fowl and Wetland Trust had a small car collection combined with a bird park, it had a lot of owner lent cars, a friendly staff that allowed close inspection on request and a good number of Austin 7’s, got to be a good place

9

THE JACARANDA RALLY 2015 The feature for this month was the Jacaranda Rally, held over 3 days beginning with the 'meet and greet' Friday evening at the Grafton Golf Club. Drinks and nibbles’ were enjoyed in cordial surrounds in the cool of the evening, many staying on for their evening meal.

Duke Street in front of Christ Church Cathedral was cordoned off for the annual static display. 75 vehicles were on show to the public, 11 of which were Austen Healy’s and a number of newer muscle cars. A number of trophies were awarded; Shannon's trophy to Graham Sill's EK Holden station wagon, President's choice was John and Sue Cox’s, Cortina, Car of the show owned by Neil Frigen and Judy Darby, a 1960 wide body Austen Healy. Exhibitors and visitors made use of morning tea and BBQ facilities.

The Saturday afternoon was taken up with a run to Lawrence Garden Shed Museum, the bell collection creating a lot of interest, then afternoon tea on the river bank. Cars then returned to Grafton to participate in the Jacaranda parade followed by an evening meal in The Gateway Lilypad Pavilion. A bit of fun was created by the auction of a jar of rosella jam.

Sunday began as a sunny day, but the weather being what it is, that changed and a few hardy souls in open top cars got wet. Vehicles met in Prince Street then processed to the Sporting Car Club facility at Mountain View and tested their cars on the hill climb track. This was followed by a run to Rapville for luncheon. From there participants’ returned to their respective homes. The weekend was voted a great success. Other activities included taking part in the Grafton Sporting Car Club 60th Anniversary Parade from the library to Mountain View Hill Climb. The coffee run was to Nana Glen, 5 cars taking part. A number of cars attended the Yamba Hot Rod show, another great day. 13th Christmas party at Brooms Head. 14th final meeting for the year at Brushgrove Hall 7.30 pm.

Four Output Solar Trickle Charger I recently came across this unit at the Newcastle motorcycle rally. It was originally designed for bikes but is equally suited to car or any other 6 or 12 volt battery. The unit is powered by a single solar panel and has four independent outlets each capable of either 6 or 12 volts and limited to 200mA each and can be used on either positive or negative earthed vehicles. Each output has LED indicators that show “on charge “and “on float”. The unit is supplied with 4 x 4 metre cables to enable quick connection. Each vehicle (four) has a short fuse protected har-ness that is permanently connected, making a quick connection to the 4 metre cable. There are no alligator clips to fall off. There are two versions available – dual voltage or 12 volt only. The cost is $199 for the dual voltage unit (including solar panel) and $189 for 12 volt unit (including solar panel). The unit comes complete with harness and cables. Features and Benefits. Extends Battery life by avoiding deep discharge. Quick and easy to connect. Frees up mains power outlets. Robust cable with external sheath for protection from mechanical damage. For further information contact : Chris Zoch at 96744984 or [email protected]
