Sacred Heart to conduct commencement ceremonies Sunday, May 15

Sacred Heart High School will hold com-mencement ceremonies Sunday, May 15, at the Sacred Heart Gymna-sium at 1 p.m.

Graduation begins Sunday, with a Catho-lic Mass at 11:30 a.m. before continuing in the gymnasium at 1 p.m.

Valedictorian for Sa-cred Heart’s Class of 2011 is Christopher Syl-vester, son of Dr. Carl and Sally Sylvester.

Serving her class as Salutatorian is Abigail Enicke, daughter of Bart and Jana Enicke.

The class motto is “As the years go by, time

just seems to fly, but the memories remain.”

Class colors are Navy Blue and Old Gold.

The class flower is the White Rose. The class song is “Times of my Life.”

Other honor students include Taylor McCau-ley, Taylor Veillon and

Ourso College of Business held its annual Spring Awards Cer-emony on April 12 at the LSU Faculty Club. This event is de-signed to recognize outstanding students, faculty and inductees of Beta Gamma Sigma.

“The Spring Awards Ceremo-ny is one of the many opportu-nities that we have to recognize the achievements of two groups of people essential to our being – our faculty and our students,” E. J. Ourso College Dean Eli Jones said during the ceremony. “Today, we will recognize them

for their excellence in the class-room, as scholarship recipients, as honor society inductees and as student organization members. I can truly say that I have been impressed with the dedication and determination of both our faculty and our staff.

Cleco’s Hot Spot safety tour a huge successMore than 4,500 students who attend 33 schools

from Mansfield to Mandeville have witnessed Cleco’s Hot Spot safety program during Electrical Safety Month. The presentations began Monday, May 2, and continue through Friday, May 13.

“While we recognize May as Electrical Safety Month, Hot Spot allows us to impact students and their families with safety messages they can use throughout the year,” said Robbyn Cooper, Hot Spot coordinator.

To help promote electrical safety month, Cleco uses its Hot Spot demonstration, which carries 7,620 volts to demonstrate the dangers of electric-ity resulting from real-life situations. Using props such as a ladder, kite and an electric simulator, em-ployees create fire and sparking to show the dan-gers of unsafe practices around electricity.

“This is our eighth year to take Hot Spot to schools,” said Cooper. “This demonstration gives our employees an opportunity to interact with stu-dents and teach them about electrical safety. We sometimes see students in local stores after a Hot Spot performance, and we hear them tell their par-ents about Hot Spot when they see us. It’s a good feeling to know that students are remembering the safety lessons we attempt to teach.”

“We can not talk about electrical safety too much,” said Mike Joseph, Cleco’s risk manager. “Electricity is around us everyday. Our demonstra-tion stresses the need to be aware of your surround-ings and to remember that electricity lines are both overhead and underground. ”
