Article 34.1 of Spain's University Act (Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 De-cember) rules that Universities are authorized to provide teach-ing leading to the award of official qualifications valid through-out Spanish territory, and teaching leading to the award of other qualifications.

Master’s Degree courses provide more specialized academic and professional training and research, and are structured into programs leading to the award of a Master's Degree.

The University provides Master’s Degree courses that qualify their holders to practice a regulated profession, as well as Spe-cialized Master's Degrees. All of them are officially recognized within the European Higher Education Area.

Professional Master's Degrees are advanced specialist qualifica-tions enabling holders to perform professional activities that are regulated in Spain, with a study program which meets the condi-tions set by the Government for this profession.

A Specialized Master’s Degree is an advanced educational qual-ification that is either specialized or multidisciplinary, aimed at academic or professional specialization, or alternatively leading to research work, but which does not qualify the holder for a reg-ulated profession.

Specialized Master's Degree courses may be ordinary or extend-ed, according to students' particular educational needs such as part-time study, or to suit the type of degree or other circum-stances the University may determine.

> Ordinary Master's Degrees: 60 ECTS credits. These courses take about one year.

> Extended Master's Degrees: Approximately 60 ECTS credits. These courses may take up to two consecutive years. Their schedules are determined by the University. (Minimum 30 ECTS per academic year).

As well as these official qualifications, the University also offers its own courses. These courses are educational programs de-signed to develop skills, abilities, aptitudes, competencies and expertise, either as introductions to a professional field or for up-dating, improving or specializing professional or academic skills.

Master's and the other qualifications of Universidad Europea de Madrid, taught on-campus or online, follow a calendar structured to enhance the flexibility and adaptation of the content to the availability and needs of the students, and to support good time management in the planning of studies. This methodology is the basis for the good results of our students, their high degree of involvement and their high success rate at the end of their studies.

These regulations govern the conditions for admission and enrollment in the Official Master’s degrees and individual degree programs of Universidad Europea de Madrid.

Accredited degrees and the EuropeanHigher Education Area

These are qualifications adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). They consist of three cycles: Bachelor's, Master's and PhD. Both Bachelor's degrees and Master's degrees relate to the following areas of study:

> Arts and Humanities.

> Science.

> Health Sciences.

> Social Sciences and Law.

> Engineering and Architecture.

ECTS credits

ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) are the standard for all universities in the European Higher Education Area to ensure consistency across the different European education systems. ECTS credits are based on the work students do in person, in all the activities of the learning process (classroom hours, study hours, assignments and internships). 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to 25-30 student work hours.

Article 34.1 of Spain's University Act (Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December) rules that Universities are authorized to provide teaching leading to the award of official qualifications valid

throughout Spanish territory, and teaching leading to the award of other qualifications.

Place reservation fee: Reserving a place constitutes confirma-tion by the student that they accept the place, want to enroll at the University, and are guaranteed a place in their chosen de-gree program.

Tuition Fees: Tuition represents the academic content associat-ed with each degree program, consisting of subjects and ECTS.

The annual tuition fee for specialized graduate degrees varies based on the degree, regardless of the number of ECTS credits in which the student is enrolled.

Once through the admission process, candidates will have 15 calendar days from the date of notification of admission to the Graduate Degree program to reserve their place, provided there are still places available on the program. Reserving a place en-sures they are enrolled on the chosen degree program.

The amount of the place reservation fee for students joining a graduate degree will depend on the chosen degree (see table of academic fees). The place reservation fee is included in the cost of the degree (see the tuition table).

For professional Master's degrees, the place reservation fee will be paid each year, if the program is for more than one academic year. From the second year, it will be paid by direct debit on Au-gust 1 each year (before enrolling for the second year subjects). Tuition fees will be calculated by multiplying the number of cred-its/ECTS in which the student is enrolled by the price per credit/ECTS defined in each academic year.

> DIRECT DEBIT To the bank account indicated in the financial and family information form provided during the admissions process. Students must have a bank account within the SEPA (Single Euro Payment Area) that allows for payments by direct debit. The SEPA area includes the member states of the Euro-pean Union, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, and Switzerland.

> CREDIT CARD (on the website).

> PAYMENT BY ONLINE TRANSFER.. Spanish and internation-al students who cannot pay the Place Reservation Fee by the above methods can pay via our website’s Graduate Degree Ad-missions Process or at the following link:

https://www.flywire.com/school/universidadeuropea

9.4. PREPARE YOUR TRIP TO SPAIN

Before coming to Spain

Student visas

International students (except for those taking online courses and PhD candidates with no need to come to Spain) who are not residents or nationals of European Union States, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein must obtain a visa for the period of their chosen program, according to the following guidelines:

For stays of six months or under, request a 180-day visa, while for stays over six months, request a visa for the total time needed to complete the chosen program.

In this case (periods over six months), the visa issued by the Embassy or Consulate would be for 90 days, which can be extended to the total period required by the program once in Spain, as explained below in relation to the Foreign Resident Identification Number (NIE).

It is important to remember that an 180-day visa cannot be renewed in Spain, so you would have to request a new visa if you wanted to stay in Spain for longer. To do this, international students must go to a Spanish Embassy or Consulate abroad, but not necessarily in their country of origin.

Students must request their visa in person from the Spanish Consulate or Embassy. To find the address of the Spanish Consulate or Embassy in your country of origin, go to www.maec.es, the website of Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The Embassy or Consulate staff will tell you what documents you need in order to obtain the visa. Although it usually takes around four to six weeks to get a visa, we recommend beginning the process at least two months before the chosen course starts, so that international students can start their classes on time.

To help with the process, here is a list of the requirements and documentation you need to obtain a visa:

> A passport valid for at least six months (provided by the student).

> A document indicating that the student has enough money to

live on (provided by the student).

> A letter of admission to the education institution (provided by Universidad Europea de Madrid, Valencia or Canarias, as

applicable [*])

> A Criminal Record Certificate (provided by the student).

> Private medical insurance with repatriation coverage (provided and paid for by the student) (the university recommends taking

out an insurance policy [**]).

The cost of the medical insurance will be assumed by the student.

You can follow the link below to take out insurance with AON Seguros, or if you prefer, use an insurance company of your choice. www.aonstudentinsurance.com.

For programs which include staying in a country outside of Europe, international students and their insurance companies should consider whether they need to take out another insurance policy to cover these stays.

This insurance can be taken out by any student applying to any program at Universidad Europea de Madrid or the European Career College of Madrid.

In the case of students from any member State of the European Union, we suggest obtaining the European Health Insurance Card in their country of origin.

The University is available at any time to help international students resolve any issue which may arise during the process of obtaining their visa.

(*) LETTER OF ADMISSION TO THE EDUCATION INSTITUTION So that

students can manage their visa application process, once they have paid

their Place Reservation fees, Universidad Europea provides them with a

Letter of Admission to their chosen program, specifying its name, the

start and end dates, the number of hours, and any other details about

the program.

(**) PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE Medical insurance is mandatory for

all international students who require visas in order to study in Spain (i.e.,

students who are not residents in or nationals of European Union member

States, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). Not being insured means running

the risk of not receiving the appropriate health care.

In Spain*

Universidad Europea reminds students that the visa issued by Spain allows them to travel freely in all the countries within the Schengen Area. The visa is not valid outside this area.

Student Card / Foreign Resident Identity Number (NIE)

The NIE is the number used to identify foreign residents in Spain. This number is unique and personal.

> International students who are nationals of or residents in a European Union country can get a NIE number by registering with the EU Resident Registry.

> For international students from countries outside the European Union, the NIE number is included in the Student Card.

Once in Spain, international students with visas should request a Foreign Resident Identity Number (NIE), which will serve as a residence permit for students with 90-day visas who have to extend their legal stay in Spain.

The Student Card will replace the student visa issued in the country of origin, enabling holders to travel in Schengen Area countries without the need for a visa, and provides a legal basis for their stay in Spain.

You must apply for the card within one month of arriving in Spain, and before the visa expires. The card includes a Foreign Resident Identity Number (NIE). Until you have the card, we do not advise leaving Spain, as international students may find they have problems getting back in.

To request the NIE (registering with the EU Resident Registry) or the Student Card, go to:

Documentation and process

Students should bring their passport, plus a copy of it.

Students who are not nationals or residents of a European Union country must also bring their visa to these offices, where they can request an appointment to get fingerprinted and pay the official fee.

International students who are nationals of or residents in a European Union country will immediately be issued a registration certificate showing the name, nationality and address of the registered person, their foreign resident identity number, and the date of registration.

International students who are not nationals of or residents in a European Union country will immediately be given an appointment and told what documents to bring. For information purposes, these are usually documents which accredit that the student:

> Meets all requirements for entering and remaining in Spain, including a visa, granted specifically for studying at any officially recognized public or private institution (passport and visa).

> Has been accepted, according to normal regulations, to any officially recognized public or private education or scientific institution in order to carry out unpaid study, training or research tasks, with an indicated timetable requiring the student to attend, for three months or more, including the approved study, research or training plan (letter of admission).

> Has guaranteed sufficient funds to pay for their studies, living expenses and travel to their country of origin for themselves and their family members, if applicable.

The student has guaranteed health care through a medical insurance policy with unlimited coverage nationwide .

Other documents which are often requested include:

> Municipal registration certificate (empadronamiento).

> Two (2) passport sized photos (3 x 4 cm).

The period of permission to stay may be limited to the length of the study, research or training course. If the course is more than twelve months, the card can be renewed annually.

In all cases, to renew permission to stay in order to study, students must present a certificate from the center where they are taking the course, accrediting compliance with the requirements for continuing to study, or a favorable report on the research project.

Opening a bank account in Spain

Spain's banking and building society infrastructure is among the most highly developed in the world, with one of the highest ratios of bank branches per capita.

To open a checking account in a Spanish bank, you just need your Student Card / Foreign Resident Identification Number (NIE) and letter of admission.

Depending on the bank, there may be other requirements, such as depositing a certain amount of money, showing a payslip, providing a photo or fingerprints, or a letter of introduction.

The most common procedure is to open a current account, which usually carries low or no maintenance charges, associated with a debit card, which allows you to make purchases and withdraw cash up to the limit of the amount available in the account. You can use the debit card to withdraw money from any cash point (ATM), although this will be free of charge only in the cash points of the bank or building society of the account, and the others will charge a fee.

International students can open a bank account once they are in Spain. On the Villaviciosa Campus of Universidad Europea de Madrid there is a bank branch where you can open an account if you want.

Support services for your stay in Spain

(*) Universidad Europea has given its backing to an advantageous financial

agreement with MadridEasy. However, it accepts no liability for any

commercial relationships between MadridEasy and UEM students.

Admissions advisers will also provide you with useful information.

9.5. REQUESTS FOR OFFICIAL CERTIFICATES

When you conclude your studies, you can request the official certificates from the University website, under the section “Request Official Certificates.” To do so, you must log in with your username and password and pay the fee for the certificates online with a debit card.

Remember that it takes approximately 9 - 12 months from payment of the fees for the certificates to be issued.

If you want these documents to have legal effect in countries outside the European Union, you will have to legalize them. This process varies, depending on whether your qualifications are official:

> Official qualifications: legalization by the Ministry of Education.

> Non-official qualifications: legalization by notary.

All accreditation procedures must be carried out by the student.

Specific Prerequisitesfor Professional andLegal Practice Master's Degrees

10.

10.1. SPECIFIC PREREQUISITES FOR PROFESSIONAL MASTER'S

Pre-EHEA qualifications required to be admitted to Professional Master's leading to regulated engineering careers (industrial, telecommunications, civil engineering, and aeronautics), Architecture, and Psychology. Foreign students should consult the bachelor’s degree validation conditions to be admitted to Professional Master’s Degrees.

The prerequisites for access to the Professional Master's leading to regulated engineering careers in Spain are set forth in the Ministerial Orders listed below for the degrees taught at UEM:

> Order CIN 309/2009, Civil Engineering.

> Order CIN 355/2009, Telecommunications Engineering.

> Order CIN 311/2009, Industrial Engineering. > Order CIN 312/2009, Aeronautical Engineering.

These Orders all have the same structure, with section 4.2 stating:

Section 4.2 - Conditions of access to the Master's.

4.2.1 Access to the Master's qualifying holders for the profession of Industrial/Civil/Telecommunications/Aeronautical Engineer is open to those who have previously acquired the competen-cies set forth in Section 3 of the Ministerial Order, establishing the requirements for verifying official degrees qualifying holders for the profession of Industrial/Civil/Telecommunications/Aero-

nautical Engineer, and their training, in line with Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order. 4.2.2 Access to the Master's will also be permitted when the degree held by the interested party accredits the basic training module and the shared module of the branch, even if this does not cover a complete block of the specific technology module, with 48 credits from among all the blocks of that module, in a degree qualifying the holder for the profession of Industrial /Civil /Telecommunications/Aeronautical Engineer, in line with the aforementioned Ministerial Order. 4.2.3 Similarly, access to this Master's is open to those who hold any other degree, without prejudice to any complementary training deemed necessary being required in this case. These conditions refer exclusively to access to Master’s degrees in the system of the European Higher Education Area. However, all the orders also include a reference to pre-EHEA degrees: The above sections will be understood to be without prejudice to the provisions of Article 7.2 and Additional Provision 4 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29.

Consequently, the current legislation makes it possible for Technical Engineers to access Master’s courses, including those relating to regulated engineering professions, although each university must define the complementary studies required in each case. Taking into account that the curricula studied by Technical Engineers before the EHEA was introduced were based on the so-called catalog of degrees and were strictly regulated, the same complementary studies can be defined for all holders of

Page 34: Graduate Degree Admissions Regulations...the University, and are guaranteed a place in their chosen de-gree program. Tuition Fees: Tuition represents the academic content associat-ed

2019/20 Academic Year Regulations · Universidad Europea

a given type of qualification, regardless of their university of origin. The complementary studies described in this document were defined in order to ensure that at the end of the training process, students have acquired the knowledge and skills set out in the ministerial orders above, and in the curricula of each Master's.

I. Industrial Engineering

The Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering at Universidad Europea de Madrid consists of 108 ECTS. According to the above, and section 4.2 of the regulation on the Master's, the graduates of any university whose degree qualifies them for the regulated profession of Industrial Technical Engineer can access the Master's. Similarly, all graduates of degrees which, while not qualifying for this profession, meet the requirement 4.2.2 of the Order CIN cited above (degrees of the Industrial Technological Engineer type), can also have access. The court ruling annulling Article 4.2.1 of the Order CIN does not affect access for the graduates included in that Article, as their qualifications also include the indications of Article 4.2.2.

Holders of engineering degrees close to this area of knowledge (Energy Engineering or Industrial Organization Engineering, for example) must also take complementary studies, to be defined below, based on a detailed study of recognized credits.

Not taking into account the content of the curriculum, holders of the Universidad Europea de Madrid degree in Energy Engineering will not have to take complementary studies.

Those needed for the holders of pre-EHEA Technical Industrial Engineering degrees are defined in the following table, depending on the original specialty, regardless of the Spanish university where they earned the degree. These complementary studies correspond to subjects in industrial area degrees at Universidad Europea de Madrid, as shown in the table. Complementary studies have been defined only for the commonest specialties. For students with different academic careers, the subjects in each case must be studied and the complementary studies defined individually. These complementary studies, taken as a whole, are prerequisites for presenting the Master’s Thesis, but can be taken at the same time as the subjects in the Master's, although the associated table includes subjects in the Master's that can only be taken if they have passed the corresponding subjects in the complementary studies. The Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering at Universidad Europea de Madrid consists of 100 ECTS. According to the above, and section 4.2 of the regulation on the Master's, the graduates of any university whose degree qualifies them for the regulated profession of Technical Engineer of Public Works can access the Master's. Similarly, all graduates of degrees which, while not qualifying for this profession, meet requirement 4.2.2 of the Order CIN cited above (degrees of the Civil and Territorial Engineer type), can also have access.
