September 18–22, 2017
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmat Allah Wa Barakatu.
Students and parents, we want to thank you for returning to EIA and working with us as we started the new school year. It’s no small feat, but your eagerness along the capable support of our faculty and staff helped lead things in orderly fashion.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SECONDARY OPEN HOUSE Friday, September 22
All Grade 7 to 9 parents are cordially invited to attend the Secondary department open house. It’s an ideal opportunity to meet the teachers in your child’s classroom, familiarize yourself with academic expectations, and take a tour around the expansion.
EIA 30TH ANNIVERSARY Saturday, October 14
On October 14, we will celebrate our 30th anniversary as Edmonton Islamic Academy. We have an illustrious history, from small school in the mosque to a large community of learning well-known in Edmonton and around North-America. We encourage you to join us in this celebration in our new Banquet Facility. You can purchase your tickets online at eia30celebration.simpletix.com.
SPARKS RUN Thursday, September 28
Our students can participate in the Sparks Run and Sport Day on Thursday, September 28. This is a day in our EIA community with many smiling faces. We will host a 2.5 km run for boys and girls in grades 6-9 and 10-12 groups, and a 2.5 km walk for the lower grades, at the walkway behind our school. Sign-up is $20 and this will fund some of our initiatives this year. See you there!
SCHOOL UNIFORM As school we have chosen a uniform and it is important that the guidelines are followed. Parents, please review the below dress code requirements and make sure your son or daughter follows this, including the more formal attire for boys on Fridays.
Girls in grade 8 are expected to wear a black abaya with back/red hijab. Boys are expected to wear black pants (not of a jean-like look) and a Top Marks red dress-or-polo-shirt. SOCIAL STUDIES Ms. Kirstie Jensch // [email protected]
CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES ➔ What is worldview? ➔ To what extent does our worldview shape our identity?
FRAME FOR THE WEEK Students completed their group projects on Worldviews this week. Additionally, we began to deepen our understanding of the concept ‘Worldview’. Students learnt about the 7 different elements that make up a worldview as well as the 3 factors that shape worldviews.
This week students will explore their understandings of these new concepts through an individual project called the Worldview Wheel. Students will have to reflect on their personal worldviews while relating their worldview to the 7 worldview elements. Class time will be provided. If class time is misused, students are expected to complete the task for homework.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE
Students will be given pop quizzes on material covered in class throughout the year. These pop quizzes make up 10% of their grade. They should expect between 2-5 questions on the material (similar to exit slips/do-nows done in previous subjects). These are gauges on how well they are absorbing the information throughout the unit and better prepare them for the upcoming tests and exams.
