This country was allied with Russia. A terrorist
organization called the Black Hand based in this
country fired the first shot that started WWI.
Due to this status within the British Empire, Canada was automatically at war when
Great Britain declared war on Germany.
Germany made an ally with this empire to keep it from
joining an alliance with Russia. At the end of WWI, the empire was disbanded. Part of the area is now the
country of Turkey
This was Canada’s first major WWI battle. The Germans
attacked using chlorine gas.Breathing through
handkerchiefs soaked in their own urine to offset the gas
effects, the Canadians defeated the Germans
In this battle, No Man’s Land had many water-filled holes.
Many soldiers drowned in the water-filled holes. Many
historians considered this battle a waste of lives.
The was the opening fight at the Battle of the Somme. Newfoundland was not part of Canada at this time. Newfoundlanders fought as British
citizens. Ordered to charge at machine guns, 725 of 800
Newfoundlanders were killed or wounded during the first hours of
this fight.
In 1918, Canadians troops led by General Arthur Currie smashed through the German defences in
this LONG battle. Nearly one-quarter of the German army
surrendered and the remaining German soldiers retreated to
Germany.
Canadian Prime Minister Border introduced this bill
during the Conscription Crisis that gave the wives of
soldiers the right to vote in federal elections.
The name given to people from Germany and
Austria-Hungary who were jailed in internment camps
during WWI.
This act, used in a state of emergency, gave strong
powers to the Government of Canada and limited the freedoms of Canadians
