WORSHIP SCHEDULE

RECTOR’S REFLECTIONS

An Update from Stan at General Convention

The Rhythm of Convention

Others have said it, but there is a rhythm to our work at General

Convention. Pray, Committee Meetings, Holy Eucharist, Legislative

session, Repeat. There seems to be more work to be done than we

can possibly do, and yet, the work that needs to be done seems to

be getting done.

Today, in the midst of the legislative session, one of the deputies

arose with a point of personal privilege to ask for the Chaplain of

the House of Deputies to lead us in an impromptu prayer – not on

the schedule of our legislative calendar at that time – to ask for God

to bring us back to our center, so to speak, to adjust our attitudes

to be in tune with the Spirit. After a short break, the Chaplain did

just that, prayed with and for us to be guided by the Spirit that

brings all things together in God’s mission for the world.

And what had begun as a fairly unfruitful legislative session, quickly

turned into one of the most productive two hours of our entire time

here in Salt Lake City.

It was a beautiful demonstration of the broken simplicity of simply

asking God to bring us back to God’s purpose for us in the first

place. And, as we yielded to the movement of the Spirit, God did

indeed bring us together to get some work done in helping the

Episcopal Church be about the ministry God has called all of us to,

something Jesus called, The Kingdom of God.

Please continue to pray with and for us, that we would be fruitful in

our broken simplicity as we yield to the Spirit’s leading.
