Early Civilization's

• Aztecas (1325-1521)• The feathered serpent was the Aztecs main god that inspired them to conquer other tribes in its name.

• Obsidian was used for weapons and gifts to be traded.

• Toltec culture spread all along the present-day Mexico area.

• Toltec empire destroyed at 1150 by invaders from North.

• The Aztecs viewed them as “Givers” of civilization.

• Aztec Jaguar warrior & Eagle warriors held high position in the military.

• Aztecs another name is Mexica.

• Aztecs established by a prophecy with an eagle and a serpent on a cactus.

• Initial Formative: 1775-1500 BC

• Early Formative: 1450-1005 BC

• Middle Formative: 1005-400 BC

• Late Formative: 400 BC

• Established a complex political government

• Were related to the Blacks of West Africa

• Introduced the first of aspects of Meso American Civilizations

• The class system; they had a high class that told the lower class

what they needed to do.

• Trading was important to the Olmec because they could obtain Jade

which was very precious to them.

• Were probably killed due to war.

The Olmecas

The Maya c.250 AD (rise of the Maya civilization)• Customs: the were buried in tombs, along with

pottery and jewelry and food. Ancentrial worship, human sacrifice.

• Families lived together they were very united• Their natural resources were their won crops that

they grew for example maiz. • Gods and Goddesses:

• Kinich Ahau- God of the Sun.Yaxche- the tree of the HeavensXibalba- The Underworld.Yum Cimil- God of Death, and Ruler of the Underworld.

They Mayas knew 30 different languages some of those languages are still used today

Miguel Hidalgo

• Generalissimo of rebel army (1810-11)• Priest and instigator of Mexican independence. At

midnight on September 16, 1810 he rang his parish bell in the city of Dolores

• raised armies for a free Mexico and swept through the central state of Guanajuato, causing the death of many Spanish

• In 1811 he fled form the United States , although he was caught and shot.

• Hidalgo accomplished little but is the symbol of Mexico’s Independence. Specially September 16th

el Dia del Grito. • "Viva Independencia! Viva America! Muera el

mal gobierno!"

Our Rodeo Drive: Avenida Presidente Masaryk Polanco:Polanco is Hollywood's Rodeo Drive. They have some of the finest stores and the world. LUXURY to describe it the best. You can find Channel and Louis Vuitton, Bvulgari, Cartier, Gucci, Ferragamo, Hermes Tiffany's. These stores in Polanco are open to the richest of the rich in Mexico City. It Is also the nicest area of Mexico City. The people that shop in these store usually have their own business and have nice cars. Most of the people that shop here unlike in Rodeo Drive pay in cash and not with credit cards. Polanco is a classy street filled with luxury restaurants and cafes.

Mexican Lexicon, Part One

• This "chilango pride" has also led the term "Chilangolandia" in reference to Mexico City.

• Chilango is a Mexican slang • More specifically a chilango is a person

who lives in la provencia• Most of the time chilangos can’t

tolerate a laugh at him or herself at any time.

Chapter 1Immigrants

Castenada explains that the reason why so many people come to the USA is to send money to their families. The passengers that go back to Mexico usually only go back because they have a visa or a residency. In 1996 President Clinton decided to clamp down on immigration and made the entry to the United States more difficult.
