Basic Interview Questions answered

1. About Myself!

I got into safety by chance when I was offered the position by the Owner and Managing Director of Aquela Contractors CC who was subcontracted to CGG VERITAS on the Platinum belt (Limpopo, North Wet Provinces) I advanced my career by making personal sacrifices of my own and my time. I really got interested and decided to broaden my scope and applied for a position at Anglo Gold Ashanti (Pty) Ltd. However due to unforeseen events I lost my work at Anglo and had to look for an opportunity while being employed as a substitute teacher. I took on every moment to be proactive to

advance my career with limited recourses at my disposal. I eventually got the required exposure to Risk and Safety Management through the current employer I am with but I feel that there is an edge that I lack; therefore I am applying for positions to advance my career even further.

Although I do have the necessary management skills and expertise brought on by my experience. My Management skills are direct and I expect specific outcomes within a set of reasonable time constraints. I am willing to negotiate and allow for training on what is reasonable and practicable. As long as subordinates understand that I am goal orientated as feedback is to be given to my Executive Members as I will make and meet deadlines set by my Executive Members. Or by any client, expecting feedback on a specified aspect with a potential impact upon the business.

2. My weaknesses!

My weaknesses that I am aware off is that I am upfront and to the point.

Although I have learned and taught myself to be humane with subordinates I sometimes feel that driven results can be achieved sooner if a subordinate applies themselves to the task at hand. However as I am experienced I cannot be seen as a dictator therefore I need to understand each employee (I myself was in the learners position and still sometimes is) – getting to know their personal strengths and weaknesses and work on their weaknesses to get the desired result through coaching and mentoring. I will follow a positive behaviour approach to engage positive outcomes with my sub ordinates or Co – employees.

3. My strengths!

I am goal oriented and goal driven to achieve the best acceptable results within a

department that is transferred to my authority. I am a peoples persons that wants results

and I am willing to achieve those results by starting with the normal employee with

positive behaviour influences and I expect nothing lesser than that of his / hers

immediate management members. On supervisory level I expect supervisors to do their

part by involving and reporting to their management members and to submit reports to

my department to ensure that all loose ends are followed up with Management

members to ensure coherence to company rules and the applicable legislation. My

greatest strength is that I never back down and that I am whole heartedly behind every

employee that wants a safe working environment. That said it must be expected that

such an employee is properly trained on expected best practices within the workplace.

Therefore it is my resolve to always back any employee that wants to make a positive

influence on the company name and image and towards his or her own personal safety.

4. Tell me about your salary expectations?

TBA – To be advised 40 +/- (000)

5. Where I am at my current role as SHERQ Manager

I am “READY & EAGER” to spread my knowledge, experience and vigour to be a

successful SHERQ Manager with a JSE Listed company or with a company that wants to

meet JSE requirements. I am looking for a professional corporate position which will

involve me as a decisive stakeholder towards the business that employs me. I am

dedicated and will be humble if considered for the afforded position and will apply and

subject my mind towards further enhancement of the business and on myself as an

individual through studying and by visiting all sites of the business and contributing

towards continual improvement through budget analysis and engineering control which

can be controlled financially within a fiscal financial year by monitoring and planning

ahead.
