◼ Laboratory FacilitiesThree well-furnished and well-equippedlaboratories (physical, inorganic and organic)with proper exhaust system have recently beenlaunched under HEQEP Window-1 projectfunded by the World Bank. A moderninstrument centre named as AdvancedInstrument Centre (AIC) has also beenestablished under the said project.Advanced Instrument Centre (AIC):The Department of Chemistry, JagannathUniversity, Dhaka, has recently launched aresearch centre named ‘Advanced InstrumentCentre (AIC)’ under the sub-project entitled‘Advancement of Teaching Learning atUndergraduate and Masters level in Chemistry’of UGC project HEQEP (Window-1) funded bythe World Bank. The AIC is well-equipped withanalytical key instruments such as UV-VisibleSpectrophotometer (single and double beam),Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrophotometerwith ATR, Magnetic Susceptibility Balance andPotentiometric Titrator. These instruments arevery much essential to conduct the fundamentalresearch in chemistry, environmental andbiological sciences. The motto of thisinstrument centre is to facilitate the researchfor the students and the faculty members of notonly the Jagannath University but also for thoseof other universities and scientists who cannotconduct their research properly because of theunavailability of these sorts of instruments intheir institution. Moreover we havepotentiostation facilities for electrochemicalstudies and computational chemistry laboratoryfor theoretical chemistry studies. The AIC has opened a sluice gate for theresearchers to propel their research activities byavailing the advanced instrumental facilities. Toachieve a high standard of research, we need toinspire our students and faculty members to usethe facilities of the AIC during their Master’sprogram, and continue to complete their M. Philand Ph.D. degree in Jagannath University. AIC willopen a instrumental training for students withinvery short time.

Thecurricula will be formulated by teachingmethodologies based on persuasive thinking tohelp students in maximizing their performance. This area is one of the important branches ofbasic science. It covers extremely broad spectrumof our lives and has been advancing rapidly in thelast two decades. Owing to the growingpopulation all around the world efficientprofessional chemists are demandable. Thechemists have something to deal with the issueslike environmental pollution, food adulteration, drug safety and energy crises. Unlike thedeveloped countries chemistry has still beenconfined within theoretical knowledge. Besidethe theoretical excellence the chemistrygraduates who are involved in chemistry relatedjob should have strong practical knowledge inlaboratory analyses and in instrument handling.

With the outstanding faculty members here inthe department, we are confident inaccomplishing our mission and looking forwardto an ever-bright future.
