Since its 2002incep<on, the Interna0onalField Programhas provided approximately half of GPIA students withoverseasfieldexperiencesthroughworkwithNGOs, IOs,and government and local agencies, aswell as a uniquelink between classroom curriculum and the world ofprac0ce.
TheField:WhereTheoryandPrac<ceWorkTogetherIn keeping with the university’s guiding intent, theInterna0onal FieldProgrammerges theory withprac0ce,offering a faculty‐supervised environment in whichstudents apply classroom knowledge while ac<velyworking in the field. Each summer, the GPIA sendsstudentstoworkalongsidedevelopmentprofessionals onsome of the world’s most pressing problems—fromdisease preven0on and human rights to environmentalsustainability and disaster relief. To date, 501 studentsfrom GPIA, Milano School for Management and UrbanPolicy,andParsonsSchoolforDesignhavepar0cipated intheIFP.
TheIFP isnotonlyacenterpieceof oureduca<onalandprogramma<c objec<ves, but is significant and uniquewithin the universe of interna0onal affairs degreeprograms– andoneof our strongest recruitmentdraws.A stated a^rac0on formany studentswho enroll, it alsoproves tobe afounda<onal experience for themajoritywhopar0cipate,presen0nganidealtrainingandresearchvehicle for both the prac<ce and thesis op<ons withinGPIA.ThroughtheIFPtheycanseediversetopicscoveredintheircoursesplayoutwithinongoingpublicdebatesorsocialprocessesinspecificlocali0es.
