Abstract This document describes the procedure for Radio Base Station (RBS) RBS3202, RBS3101 and RBS3206 and RBS3106 GPB/CBU replacement after a failure has occurred or to upgrade software packages or CBU/GPB has hardware fault. Same procedure is used when new sites are rebuilt and integrated to 3G Radio Access Network. The procedures involved detailed and step by step guide to rebuild a RBS using Element Manager Wizards along with 2 ‘XML’ and 2 ‘MO scripts’

Application The scope of this document is limited to NFM field personnel performing emergency repair activities on Radio Base Station or rebuilding/recovering and/or upgrading the RBS package software for an existing or new RBS as a single network element. All technicians/engineers working on Ericsson products or systems must have the necessary training and competence required to perform their work correctly.

Introduction

This document describes in-depth procedure to re-build/replace an existing or new GPB/CBU board in a RBS 3202/3101 and 3206/3106. The primary interface used to perform operations on the RBS is an Ericsson Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool; RBS Element Management Application and Support (EMAS). This runs locally on the RBS. The procedure is conducted primarily from a site laptop, using as a thin client towards the RBS over Ethernet. The serial connection is used primarily to perform the initial IP configuration of the RBS. Stand alone integration requires both the loading of configuration scripts and use of the RBS Element Manager Configuration wizard.

1. Prerequisites

1.1 Tools a. Thin Client Laptop with:

i. Windows Vista ii. Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher (or equivalent web browser i.e. Firefox)

iii. WinSCP FTP or Total Commander or similar Windows FTP tool iv. Java plug-in JRE 1.6.0_6 v. Tera Term, Hyperterm, Putty or a similar terminal application vi. Putty for Moshell or Cygwin

b. Torque Screws – T9 c. USB to Serial connector d. Cables

i. Ethernet cross-connect cable ii. RBS Serial cable iii. RBS connection cable RPM 513 1736/01500 iv. RS232 to RJ45 connector

1.2 Software

Before attending site for a CBU/GPB re-build/replace, ensure that you have downloaded the latest version of the basic package software as well as the site specific scripts. This will ensure that the rebuild procedure will be completed correctly. The latest version of software is located in OSS under this directory var/opt/ericsson/nms_smo_srv/smo_file_store/Delivery and will be updated as new releases become available. Ensure that the correct version of Basic Package software is downloaded as there are 2 versions depending whether the node is a RBS3101/3202 series or RBS3106/3206 series, i.e. GPB or CBU main processor installed. You also need to have the O&M.xml file; the site IP address and subnet mask as a minimum for ATM RBS and VLAN and sync info for IP RAN RBS.

2. Initial Software Load

2.1 Reload in Backup Mode

Disable your Symantec Endpoint Protection on your Ericsson laptop. Connect to the RBS over a serial connection and start a terminal application of your choice i.e. Hyper-Terminal. For a RBS3101/3202 the serial port is the ‘A’

port (lowest port) on the GPB; for a RBS3106/3206 the serial port is the “Test” port on the CBU.

RBS3101/3202

RBS3106/3206 Hyper-terminal should be configured with the following settings: COM1, 9600 bps, 8 Data bits, 1 Stop bit, No parity, no flow control (as shown below).

To ensure effective formatting of the hard disc, the RBS must be in ‘backup’ mode. Force the RBS into backup mode: $ reload --

2.2 Format Hard Disk Format /d and /c2 partitions (when in backup mode the /c disc is listed as /c2). Answer yes when prompted for confirmation: $ formathd /d

$ formathd /c2 Then reload the RBS into backup mode:

$ reload --

2.3 Set and Verify RBS IP Address in Hyper-terminal

1. After formatting the hard disk on the GPB/CBU, the IP configuration of the RBS must be set in order to reach the node using the FTP program and the RBS Element Manager.

2. The IP configuration consists of an IP address and a subnet mask. 3. Set the IP address to be the same as the final RBS IP address, as

contained in the scripts and IP network plan. This will avoid any further reconfiguration of the Thin Client.

4. Use Hyper-Terminal to set the IP configuration. 5. The subnet mask is - 255.255.255.240

$ ifconfig leØ <RBS IP address> netmask 255.2 55.255.240

e.g $ ifconfig leØ 10.178.105.241 subnet mask 255.255.255.240

Important Note: - Please verify that subnet mask and IP settings in Hyper-Terminal and also check scripts. Note that ‘broadcast’ is set automatically.

Verifying IP Configuration on Thin client

1. Verify that the IP configuration for the Thin Client is correct and that the node can be reached using the Ethernet interface. Connect your Ethernet crossover cable to the ‘B’ or ‘D’ port (where applicable) on the GPB (RBS3101/3202) or the Ethernet port on the CBU (RBS3106/3206) as shown in figure.

2. However, before you can do this you must setup your laptop LAN configuration to ensure you will be able to communicate with the node.

3. Select: Start, settings, network and dial-up connections and local area connections.

4. Select: Properties

5. Select: Internet protocols (TCP/IP v4)

6. Configure your laptop with an IP address one higher that the RBS address and

the Default gateway to the exact RBS IP address.

8. Ensure that you can now ping the sites IP address via LAN/Ethernet connection.

9. Select: Start, Run

10. Type ‘cmd’ and Select: OK

$ ping <RBS IP address>

NOTE:

1. The ping should be successful with 4 packets sent and 4 packets received as shown above.

2. If you have lost any packets or if the ping times out, check connection cable and your laptops LAN settings

2.4 Set RBS Password A password must be set after formatting the hard disc in order to use the FTP program. The user and password used for this instruction is ‘rbs and rbs’ respectively. Using Hyper-Terminal, enter the following command: $ passwd Type the new password twice when prompted Enter new password : <passwd> i.e rbs Re-enter new password: <passwd> i.e. rbs

2.5 Download Software from Thin Client to RBS

The software is downloaded via the Ethernet link from the thin client to the RBS using FTP. Open up a FTP session as shown below using either ‘WinSCP’ or ‘Total commander’ or any other FTP software of your choice.

Configure as follows:

• Host name: Site IP address • Port Number: 21

• Username: rbs • Password: rbs • File protocol: FTP

1. FTP basic package on right hand side to right directory. 2. Ensure you are in the root directory of the RBS (as shown). 3. You can do this by placing a “/” symbol in the remote location, which

will enable visibility of both the ‘/d’ and ‘/c2’ drives 4. Open your Laptop local drive and folder containing the unzipped

version of the latest software, again ensuring that the correct version is selected for the Node’s specific processor.

5. With WinSCP or Total Commander software, drag and drop files from

LHS column to RHS column (root directory). 6. The FTP should take approx 4-5 mins. Data will begin to be transferred

so do not interrupt or break connection during this process.

2.6 Reload RBS3202/3101

Re-open your Hyper-terminal connection. And type; $ reload This will force the GPB/CBU to reload with the newly installed software and thin client terminal-EMAS. The following screen will appear. Note that the GPB/CBU will load twice with basic C.V.

1. After this reload, the terminal will hang at the second last line in the

figure above ‘Login Server Ready’. You must press enter and then you will be prompted with ‘username:’

2. As yet, there is no way to check that all the programmes have been

installed in P7 as there was in P6, as the $pglist command sometimes does not work in P7.

However you may check to see that the Basic CV is loaded. Re-open Hyper-Terminal type; $ cv ls

Check to ensure the correct type of Exchange Terminal card in the RBS; in this case ET-MC1. It also wouldn’t hurt to ensure the slot position but for all RBS types (i.e. 3202/3101/3206/3106) ETMC1 will be installed in slot 2. Then, select: next.

For the RBS3202/3206 you never check this power box; but for the RBS3101/3106 since they are outdoor units and you need to check the PSU numbers and then enter accordingly. Then, select: next.

Ignore ‘Default router’. Then, select: next.

Here you do not need to restart the RBS because the boards individually restart as you proceed through the wizard process. This can be done after you load the O&M Access Configuration in the next section. Then, select: No.

5 - Running MO scripts 5.1 – Running Scripts for ATM RAN RBSs

5.1.1 – Iub MO scripts - ATM RAN sites After license is installed properly for ATM RAN site, 3rd script i.e. 03_GRI994_3RR05_iub_script.mo will be executed. Just type ‘trun’ from your moshell browser to run this script 5.1.2 – Parameter changes

After successful completion of 3rd script, 4th script i.e. ‘04_GRI994_3RR05_Parameter_changes.mo’ will be executed. Type ‘trun’ from moshell browser to run the script.

5.2 – Running Scripts for IP RAN RBSs

5.2.1 – Iub MO scripts - IP RAN sites After license is installed properly for ATM RAN site, 3rd script i.e. 03_GRI994_3RR05_iub_script.mo will be executed. Just type ‘trun’ from your moshell browser to run this script 5.2.2 – Parameter changes

After successful completion of 3rd script, 4th script i.e. ‘04_GRI994_3RR05_Parameter_changes.mo’ will be executed. Type ‘trun’ from moshell browser to run the script.

6 - Running order for scripts

Please note that the wizards and scripts will be implemented in following order for both IP and TAM RAN sites.

Any issues with these scripts please escalate to GTAC/MTAC support.

7 - Difference between ATM and IP RAN scripts

1. Also please be advised that O&M and Iub script for IP RAN sites will be different from ATM RAN sites as there is no existence of E1s in case of IP RAN sites due to IP/Ethernet, hence MOs ‘Vcltp, Vpltp, Vpctp, ATM traffic descriptors, AAL2/AAL5s’ do not exist either in O&M or Iub script instead VLANs’ configuration exist on Ethernet switch port for ETMFX11 cards 2. Also the synchronization reference MOs are different in both cases as in case of ATM, RBS will draw its sync/clock from E1s. In case of IP, RNC will act as NTP server and RBS will be NTP client, having at least one sync reference towards RNC. In general, RBS will have 2 sync references ‘Primary and Secondary’ pointing to 2 different ETMFX12 cards in RNC, which will act as NTP servers for that RBS.

8 – Kget Dumps A dump of all RBS MOs has been taken for each RBS on the network except few which had connectivity issues at the time of dump. A copy of dump will be provided to NFM to consult and extract following information to plug in relevant values in the script for that particular RBS and scripts are now ready to run.

9 – Template ATM RBS Scripts Please remember that O&M and Site equipment scripts are XML files. They can be edited using XML editor; otherwise they may not work correctly. Iub and Parameter change scripts are MO scripts and need to be run from a Command line interface using Moshell, AMOS or Cygwin.
