l Gary Payne is an experienced graphic designer and photographer. Born in London he studied Art and
design at the iconic Hornsey College of Art, renowned for it’s imaginative approach to art and design and
graduated from Middlesex University with a BA Hons 2.1 degree in graphic design.
l Gary’s career began at Inkspot design consultants in Islington, but his interest in music (as a hopeful
young drummer who once played at Ronnie Scott’s!) led to a career freelancing in publishing across
successful music titles including Q magazine, VOX and Tower Records TOP magazine.
l Gary’s design career proved more successful than his musical aspirations and in 1997 he became art
editor of international World Soccer magazine at IPC magazines where he spent the next 17 years.
l From 2002 in partnership with an former colleague, Gary created ‘Mlife’ and ‘London living’ lifestyle
magazines which also featured his photography of people, products, property and places. Gary’s
approach to professional photography is not only with the eye of a photographer but also that of a
designer with the end use in mind, utilising his technical and retouching skills to deliver professionally
finished images fit for purpose.
l His additional design work includes annual report’s, branding, infographics and visualising designs for
websites.
l In 2008, after the birth of his daughter, Gary relocated to Norwich with his family where he continues
to work as both graphic designer and photographer. More recently he has worked on titles such as
Country Life, History of Rock, Retail Week and advertorial pages for consumer magazines.
l When not working, Gary is on a quest to find the best fish and chips in Norfolk, enjoys family outings,
playing the drums, trips to London galleries and spending time with his daughter creating and drawing.

I am an established graphic designer working in the publishing, consultancy and photographic industry. After achieving my 2:1 degree I was employed in design consultancies then moved on to become a freelance designer gaining a wide variety of experience. Subsequently, I joined IPC Magazines as a full time art editor. I am able to maintain consistently high quality designs or alternatively evolve or redesign and explore new graphic ideas.
I am confident in liaising with internal and external departments from concept to final production and have meticulous attention to detail. I have managed workflow within art departments and ensure deadlines are always achieved. I can brief, manage and motivate other designers while with a sharp eye for typography and photography also produce final artwork for print using Indesign, Quark, Photoshop, Keynote, Illustrator and Acrobat.
Having always lived and worked in London, in 2008 I relocated to Norwich with my partner and baby girl. I still currently work in London, but I am now looking for employment closer to home.
My interests include music, drumming and photography.
